Objective
Chemical Engineer with background in process, project, and operations/production engineering seeking engineering position within an operating facility.
Experience
Process Engineer, Dyno Nobel Inc., Louisiana, MO March 2012 – October 2015
Significant project: Installation of a Nitric Acid distillation unit:
oCompleted incident free, on time in under 6 months, under budget, resulted in plant savings of ~3 million
oDeveloped piping and valve specifications for the unit, as the plant did not have current specs at the beginning of the project
oCoordinated P&ID and PFD development
oProvided process data for existing equipment, ensuring correct modeling of new unit
oWrote all unit SOPs
oCoordinated Delta V integration
oTrained all operators on new Delta V screen graphics and control functions
oTrained maintenance department on the process and the new equipment that was being installed
oMain point of contact during commissioning phase of project
oPlant was up to full design rate 3 weeks after commissioning
oWon an IPL Values Award for this project
Developed site piping and valve specifications
Maintained site P&IDs and PFDs, continually improving these documents
Updated and maintained site SOPs with area supervisors
Modeled plant equipment/analyzed process trends using DeltaV historian data and used results to justify plant continuous improvement projects
Worked 12-hour shift schedule during Turnarounds (TARs)
Specified equipment and instrumentation
Developed control narratives for plant processes and worked with instrumentation and control contractor
Ran small- to medium-sized plant continuous improvement projects
Coordinated plant MOC process and PSSRs for all plant projects
Participated in all area PHAs and process safety studies
Participated in all area incident investigations and took on corrective actions
Worked within site lean management guidelines, implementing continuous improvement initiatives and identifying focused improvement projects
Participated in the development of site value-stream maps
Worked closely with plant maintenance department on all new equipment installations
Mentored summer interns and monitored their progress on all assigned projects to completion
Production Engineer, ENGlobal., Palmyra, MO March 2011 – November 2011
Production Engineer, Middough Consulting Inc., Palmyra, MO February 2010 – March 2011
Production engineer for BASF Agricultural Products
oUtilize site document control procedures and update document control Access database.
oInterface with operators concerning document formatting and content, specifically log sheets that are utilized daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly within the unit.
oGenerate MOCs to obtain approvals for new document revisions according to document control procedures.
oComplete action items from PHAs and other safety reviews that require document updates.
oUpdate LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) documentation
oReview and update job safety analyses and standard operating procedures to reference current process information and operation.
oUpdate P&IDs to reflect correct piping and equipment arrangements for each product campaign.
oGenerate MOCs (permanent and temporary) for process changes and hold the appropriate safety reviews, including PHAs and PSSRs.
oAssist with the development of unit decontamination procedures when switching campaigns or having capital work done.
oReview and update Delta V programming for various modules within the unit.
oParticipate in Incident Reviews, isolating root and contributing causes, and developing corrective actions
oSupervise operations concerning a DMS (dimethyl sulfate) unloading/charging system and an anhydrous ammonia unloading/charging system
oAssist with all aspects of shutdowns, start-ups and campaign changes:
Pressure test vessels prior to start-up
Update operating procedures with process changes when switching products
Develop raw material tracking spreadsheets
Review strapping charts for vessel level indicator calibrations
Generate lockout lists for vessels when maintenance is due
Coordinate installation/removal of corrosion coupons in vessels
Decontaminate vessels for product changeovers
Project Engineer, Middough Consulting Inc., Palmyra, MO August 2008-September 2009
Project engineer for BASF Agricultural Products
oDeveloped costs and obtained funding approval for multiple projects, up to $250,000
oRan projects from kick-off to start-up. These projects included new and revised piping for process lines, process water, and methanol. Projects included control valves, flow meters, and other process instrumentation.
oRan project to install a fabricated finned tube heat exchanger by generating equipment specifications, reviewing bid tabs and mechanical drawings, and installing a catwalk around the unit.
oBecame familiar with all pertinent technical standards and piping specifications, and applied them for each project.
oHeaded all safety reviews for each project per site procedures, including PHAs/HAZOPs and Pre Start-Up Safety Reviews.
oUtilized SAP to develop project data, issue purchase orders, process invoices, generate work orders, and to track funding and scheduling on all projects.
oCoordinated project schedule with operating unit to ensure timely installation and reduce/eliminate process shutdown time.
oManaged and communicated with contractors throughout all project phases.
oReviewed all vendor specifications, information, and drawings when equipment was purchased. Coordinated with corporate purchasing department when necessary.
oUtilized Management of Change (MOC) software to document all safety information and approvals throughout the project, as well as issue and monitor action items.
Process Engineer, Middough Consulting Inc., St Louis, MO March 2007-March 2011
Utilized HYSYS and ChemCAD to model an existing refinery distillation column, then used the model to design a new column. Column was successfully installed in the refinery.
Performed walkdown in pharmaceuticals plant and developed updated P&ID’s.
Generated process line lists and tie-in lists for multiple projects.
Developed a separation column model using ChemCAD and mass/energy balances to determine the effect of a capacity increase on the unit.
Modeled heat transfer rate through a reactor jacket during a charge using data obtained in the plant. Data was collected using portable flow meter, infrared temperature sensor, and plant data from Delta V.
Used hydraulic calculations to size pumps and process lines for clients.
Reviewed relief scenarios and sized safety valves for single and 2-phase systems.
Sized and specified vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, control valves, flow orifices, flow meters.
Performed mass and energy balances as needed for various projects.
