Professional Experience:
Mody Pumps Inc. - Product Design Engineer (Aug 2013 – Present) Headquartered in the USA with operating locations in Europe and India, worldwide distribution network, Mody Pumps Inc. is a leading pump manufacturer with over 200 employees worldwide. Product Design Engineer
Reporting to the Global Operations and Service Manager and supporting the engineering department across all facilities (local and overseas), the Product Design Engineer holds responsibility for design and development of submersible centrifugal pumps that are used in the construction, waste water and dewatering industries.
• High Head Submersible Pump Development Life-cycle: Part and Assembly Design of 200 components. Sourcing and prototype of each component. Dimensioning and tolerancing of critical pump components (ISO 1101-2912, ASME Y14.5- 2009). Maintained Project progress by creating a schedule. Reverse Engineering of a complex 7 vane impeller. Material Identification based on functionality required. Created part codes and design revision records maintenance using ERP system. Procedures followed as per ISO 9001:2008 QMS. Assisted in Flow analyses using SolidWorks Flow Simulation and Ansys Fluent to validate design. Testing and inspection of components.
• Design and analysis of pump lifting handle: Pump Weight approx. 1500lbs. Handles were designed using Solidworks and the best design was selected for analyses. Hand calculations were performed. Bolted joint rating was considered and maximum yield was compared to yield strength of the material. Material thickness and selection was selected for analyses.
• Exploded Views and BOMS: Reviewed and corrected 12 80 part assemblies on Solidworks. Created BOM’s for each and exploded views to complete the project within 1 and a half month. Constant follow up and improvements in the customer manuals to maintain consistency of part numbers between databases in supplier vendor relationship.
• Seminars on NPSH and its influence on Pump Performance: 2 Semi Annual seminars are held for service technicians of our worldwide partners. Seminars were held to spread awareness of the issues affecting pump performance. NPSH and its components were explained. Group 0f 30-50 people each seminar.
• Inventory Management Project (Lean Six Sigma Project): Root cause analysis of issues in the parts department was performed. Semi-Annual inventory count requiring 15 personnel for three days was replaced by performing cycle inventory of select random sections of the warehouse by two personnel associated with the parts department every week. Location tags were created for each and every shelf. Entire inventory list was saved on to google sheets and location tag info associated with each part updated corresponding to its actual location. A 5S was performed for the entire parts department. Relevant documents for traceability of component in the facility were created. Parts with shelf life were identified with tags and observations at regular intervals performed to check any deterioration in the product. Created part codes for parts with missing part numbers.
• Created Standard operating procedures for processes on the production floor as per ISO Quality management requirement. Work Instructions released post control of documents and approval from top management.
• Inspection of Vendor Facility and prototype inspection in China. Acted as Design Liaison for facilities in India and Greece to coordinate product development.
• Factory visit to India and Europe to make processes pertaining to US facility consistent across the facilities. Performed site visits to understand failure causes of product.
• Familiarity with regulations. including CSA and UL. Education:
• M.S Industrial Engineering at University of Texas at Arlington, Texas USA (December, 2014). CGPA: 4.0/4.0
• B.E Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, India (2012). CGPA: 7.75/10.0 Certifications:
• Six Sigma green belt quality certification.
