Production Manager February 2004 – December 2011

Complete accountability for all aspects of a fast paced, challenging semi-automated, 210 employee, QS 9000 certified, three-shift production and sub assembly operation. Directed and delegated assignments to one superintendent and three technical supervisor’s effectively achieving operational excellence. Drove the development of short and long range plans to continuously improve quality, manufacturing techniques and processes in the manufacturing area.

Just completed 71 months of on time delivery – no missed shipments.

Improved customer quality PPM from 295 down to 80.

Successfully staffed 3rd shift with 35 direct employees, 1 indirect and one supervisor to accommodate and increase in customer demand of 5,000 units per day.

Orchestrated 3 “employee involvement” teams generating ideas which led to solutions of issues on the manufacturing floor. Each team developed a charter complete with objectives. These programs saved $26,000 in scrap and improved uptime by 11%.

Launched TPM program on all equipment to proactively identify and resolve issues before they occur. Initial first pass identified issues which improved average uptime by 16%.

Production Superintendent October 2002 – February 2004

Coordinate and follow through with all aspects of production in the final assembly department in a challenging three-shift operation. Developed plans to ensure all production, quality, and cost goals were met with respect to overall plant goals and objectives. Established an environment where open channels of employee communication were encouraged and promoted.

Developed “root cause” analysis on an in house process customer complaint. Gathered and developed data in presentation form and presented to the customer at their facility. The analysis data convinced the customer to reverse the decision to recall thousands of units from the field. Cost avoidance between $100,000 and $500,000.

Using Kaizen decreased WIP in 3 sub assembly areas reducing floor inventory by 50%. This also reduced 2 indirect operators saving $60,000 per year.

Analyzed and restructured the 100% test area eliminating 1 direct employee for a savings of $30,000 while maintaining current throughput.

Designed and implemented “Poke Yoke” to ensue all slots in the packing containers were complete. Procured and installed weight scales at each packing station eliminating customer audit rejects by 12%.

Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor February 2000 – October 2002

Executed the use of engineering expertise to analyze, diagnose and correct issues affecting manufacturing equipment and processes of all products. Delegated and mentored 2 Manufacturing Engineers, 1 Automation Engineer and 2 Electronic Specialists maximizing production equipment and tooling. Prepared capital appropriation requests for all manufacturing equipment purchases. Evaluated feasibility of all new product design and provided necessary changes throughout the Design for Manufacturing process ensuring smooth, timely plant and customer production implementation.

Managed 3 major cost reduction programs concurrently. Writing the capital appropriation requests, justifying the funds, oversee the design, construction and production approval for a total labor reduction of $150,000 per year.
