WORK EXPERIENCE
March 2011 – Present Day General Manager Anytime Fitness Belvidere
My primary function is to manage all aspects of the business, including but not limited to: membership sales, personal training sales, devising marketing plans via social media and traditional sources, overseeing the performance of 7 employees, and ultimately creating an atmosphere that provides the best member experience possible. During my nearly 5 years at the Belvidere, Illinois franchise, I have grown the general membership base by 41% and increased annual personal training revenue by nearly 300%. Also, our club’s PLEASE score (Anytime Fitness Corporate’s “likelihood to recommend” customer service metric) is always well above the company average.
August 2009 – May 2011 Adjunct Composition Instructor Rock Valley College
As a classroom instructor, job related duties revolved around constructing a syllabus for each unique course, creating weekly lesson plans, delivering in class lectures, facilitating student participation, providing meaningful feedback to student writing, etc. In addition to my classroom experience, I also worked in the writing center between 15-20 hours a week. During this time, I would work one on one with students on various parts of the writing process where conveying information in a clear, understandable manner was paramount.
EDUCATION
Loyola University Chicago
Masters of English, May 2009
-Magna cum laude (3.6 GPA)
Arizona State University
Bachelor’s in English Literature, May 2008
-Summa cum laude (3.8 GPA)
Other Considerations
While I don’t have direct experience in the financial industry, the three characteristics that give me confidence going into this new endeavor is (a) my past experience in education and current role in business, (b) knowing that I have a genuine desire to help other people, and (c) my deep trust in my ability to simply work hard. Working long hours and embodying a “follow up, follow through” sales process is something that I already do. However, I feel it’s time to redirect my energies and learn a new business model that will allow me to reach my full potential.
