PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of NY/NJ, Hillsborough, NJ 2013 – 2015 Human Resources Manager
Responsible for all HR related functions for this multi-site medical office. This 100+ employee organization provided dermatology and cosmetic surgery services with locations in Hillsborough, Hackensack and NYC. As the sole HR professional in the organization, I was responsible to provide the full scope of HR services including recruiting, benefits administration, compensation analysis (including merit budget planning) along with policy development and communication. Key accomplishments included:
• As a smaller employer, we entered into an agreement with a PEO (Paychex). This allowed us to realize a savings in employee benefits of $125,000 (rather than the projected 40% increase) going from 2013 into 2014.
• During my tenure, I was given the responsibility of managing the HR function for a sister organization in Florida
(Sanctuary Medical) with 40 employees. I established an HR framework for them by implementing several key HR initiatives including an updated HR policy and procedure manual, a performance appraisal system, and a recruiting platform.
• Authored and implemented a comprehensive employee manual and a performance appraisal and performance improvement process.
• Responsible for recruiting medical staff (physicians, physician assistants, nurses and medical assistants), administrative/call center staff and management employees. Recruiting efforts (internet, employee referral, etc) were direct hires (not agency hires) in order to contain costs.
• Provided counsel and training to managers on all employee relations matters. Mitigated several employee related lawsuits by ensuring a system of proper performance appraisal and performance improvement practices were implemented.
Pinnacle Treatment Centers/Endeavor House, Keyport, NJ 2011 – 2012 Manager - Human Resources
Managed the HR function for this substance abuse treatment services provider. Provided day-to-day HR service and support (recruiting, benefits administration, compensation planning, employee relations, etc.) to Endeavor House (100 employees) along with HR consulting and support to 14 remote business units (Pinnacle). Reported to both the CEO of Pinnacle and the Executive Director of Endeavor House. Key accomplishments included:
• Took a paper-based HR system and migrated to an ADP HRB web-based system. In addition to standard personal and payroll information, the system also tracked regulatory data for each employee (certifications/credentials, personal health information, performance reviews, etc.) per state compliance requirements.
• Developed and distributed an in-house employee survey product to all 14 business units. Data was analyzed by business unit and feedback resulted in quality improvement initiatives.
• Authored a comprehensive employee manual for Endeavor House.
• Managed a recruiting function with a turnover rate of 25% (industry standard). Calvary Chapel Stony Brook, Middlesex, NJ 2006 – 2010 Office Administrator/Outreach Coordinator
Joined the staff of this non-denominational church to provide both administrative support services as well as to lead their outreach (food pantry) to the community. Reported to the Senior Pastor. Highlights of my responsibilities included:
• As ministry leader of the Lighthouse Food Pantry, I managed a staff of 25+ volunteers and was responsible to ensure adequate food commodities were available for distribution. Handled all purchasing, mandatory government reporting compliance, and inventory control functions. Also developed relationships with key community constituents and other faith-based organizations to garner support and funding.
• Fiscal responsibility for the Lighthouse Outreach. Developed creative strategies, both within the church as well as in the community, to raise funds. Met or exceeded (surplus) annual budget goals each year.
• Planned and coordinated events, both within the church as well as in the community. Developed and executed communication plans and promotional strategies. This was a highly visible role.
• Managed the church calendar and coordinated usage of four (4) separate facilities. Bon Secours New Jersey Health System, Hoboken, NJ 2005 (9 mos) Senior Generalist (Contract Position)
During a planned acquisition and hiring freeze, provided support to the HR function of this hospital employing 1200 union and non-union staff. Reported to the Executive Director of Human Resources. Some responsibilities included:
• Provided analyses to management on costs and savings, as well as the preparation of severance and benefit packages, during three major reductions in force. Ensured compliance with union contracts.
• Participated in several compensation surveys to ensure retention of key staff during this high-risk period.
• Conducted major benefit audit netting a savings of $500K. The Sharing Network, New Providence, NJ 2004 – 2005 HRIS Consultant (Contract Position)
• Following a conversion to HR/Perspective (ADP-HR) with only basic current employee data, I “built-out” the system gathering information from a variety of sources (both database and paper). Completed a job description review project based on revised FLSA regulations. When finished, this was a fully functioning HRIS system.
• Developed a recommendation for staff equity adjustments with a $50K budget. Project came in at $49.7K and all recommendations were approved.
Siemens Corporation, New York, NY and Iselin, NJ 1994 – 2003 Staff Consultant - Corporate Human Resources
Reported to the VP of Organizational Development and was responsible for a variety of both administrative and generalist activities:
• Managed the day-to-day operations of the local HR department (Iselin/NYC).
• Responsible for recruiting activities, employee relations support at all organizational levels, and completing numerous compensation surveys annually.
• Provided support to the rollout of a web-based employee self-service software using a PeopleSoft database. Acted as the project leader on the HRIS conversion from Advanced Revelation to PeopleSoft in 1996 and 2 subsequent system upgrades.
