Agriculture Trade & Logistics Consultant: World Bank, January 2014 –November 2014 Project: Trade and Transport Facilitation Assessment for Zimbabwe Horticulture and Cotton Value and Supply Chains

Carried out an audit and identified impediments that add to the cost, time and uncertainty of the activities and transactions in the value and supply chain. Assessed the relative importance of impediments in the overall performance of the value and supply chain. Evaluated opportunities for eliminating these impediments or reducing their impact through policy initiatives and investment

Horticulture: developed a system for production by smallholder farmers and establishing a cold chain investment opportunities for industry stakeholders. Carried out regional and international market analysis and market access requirements for different markets.

• Recommended strategies to attract joint venture investments with international partners to revive and grow the horticulture sector value chain

Cotton: examined entire system of transport and logistics, opportunities for lint and value added edible oil and stock feeds.

• Formulated strategies to promote trade and attract investment in spinning, weaving and garment industry that can establish a niche in the international markets.

Logistics

Containerization costs audit, identified impediments to trade caused by high prices obtaining in Zimbabwe compared to other landlocked countries such as Zambia and Botswana. Examined problems with government regulations or logistics services and developed components of a World Bank investment project to remove these impediments. Provided information needed to design initiatives to reduce the cost of containerization performance and estimated its benefits in terms of trade competitiveness.

• Comparative analysis of export and imports transport costs, transit times for both rail and road and risks on the Beira and Durban corridors

• Identified investment opportunities along the Beira Corridor to enhance trade and transport facilitation given the port proximity to Zimbabwe compared to Durban.

Conducted workshops on inception, final draft, validation and presentation of final report to Government of Zimbabwe. Marketing Executive: Windmill (Private) Limited, April 2010-November 2012 Reported to CEO, developed and executed sales and marketing strategy that contributed to fertilizers, chemicals and stockfeeds sales and profit growth. Provided leadership to a team comprising two fertilizers sales, crop chemicals, R&D, stock feeds, public relations, and retail and distribution managers. • Carried local and international competitor analysis and won US$3 million Crown Agents tender to supply fertilizers to smallholder farmers. .

• Pioneered the opening of retail shops for fertilizers, crop chemicals and stock feeds ahead of competition and optimized free cash flow in response to stockists’ erratic payments.

• Trained 600 potato farmers in land preparation, planting and application of fertilizers and chemicals, harvesting and marketing, in partnership with Gwebi Agriculture College and Seed Potato Co-op.

• In partnership with NGOs, contracted 500 smallholder and rural farmers for maize production and provided raw materials for stock Windmill stockfeeds production.

• Launched and sponsored annual national high schools soccer tournament Chief Executive Officer: ZimTrade, August 2006-October 2009 Reported to the Board of Directors, formulated and implemented strategies and plans for sustainable national exports development, promotion of exports and export led investment opportunities.
