BMW South Africa offers motivated graduates within the Commerce, Engineering and Information Technology, Finance and Business Management disciplines the opportunity to join the company on a fixed term placement.

POSITION : HR Graduate

PLACED AT : BMW Plant Rosslyn

DURATION : MARCH 2015 TILL TO DATE

Role:

Performed Recruitment sourcing for the business.

HR administration processes.

Regular interactions with ER and HR Business Partners.

HR Projects worked on:

Talent Management Landscape: This focuses mainly on forecasting attrition

(retirements, dismissals etc.) and how business can plan ahead for that

AH Qualification: Introduction of a new Qualification for hourly associates within the plant, whereby I got exposure to interact with the union Reps(shop steward) regarding the impact of the Qualification on associates and getting their sign off of the program.

AMIC Qualification: Industry recognized qualification in the automotive sector, whereby I had to work hand in hand with the Shop steward in reaching consensus regarding the Impact of prior 1995 associates’ level shifts. Qualification consists of four levels which impact on associates’ wage.

Human Capital Trends: The focus was on identifying the best in the world practices in Organizations’ and Identifying where BMW South Africa is at currently and what are the gaps that BMW South Africa needs to reach to be on par with the global Trends and presented the information to the HR Director and all of his General Managers and of which was a big highlight for me as graduate.

Graduate Program Project: Continuous Improvement Systems: The focus was on integrating two Idea Management systems which were in conflicting with one another as they reside from two different departments with different views on how associates ideas should be handled and rewarded. Benchmarking with other automotive companies like NISSAN etc. and internal benchmarking with our BMW counterpart plants like BMW Spartanburg Plant and Munich was conducted as well as literature reviews from the gurus of Idea Management were also researched. The layout of every step of our research was then documented and published into a book and presented to the entire BMW Plant in a form of a Trade show.

The book was compiled by me and other four Graduates while working with the Project Sponsor which was the General Manager of Strategy and Group Projects alongside the Project Lead who is an OD Specialist. PAST WORKING EXPERIENCES:

BankSeta – (Kuyasa learnership) The Kuyasa Post Graduate Programme is a sponsored intervention where the BANKSETA pays for the recruiting of unemployed learners, monthly stipends for the duration (1 Year) of the learnership, training provision and learner support. Attended Disciplinary cases for exposure internally with the HR Business Partner while operating under the company policies and Employee Relations assistance.

Got exposure at the CCMA while shadowing the ER specialist. Student Village – A promotions company aimed at getting brands trending in the 18 – 24 year old market, it achieves this through the help of students by giving them exposure to the working environment throughout their campus life.

POSITION : STUDENT PROMOTER

PLACED AT : TSHWANE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

DURATION : MARCH 2009 TO FEBRUARY 2013

Role:

I was promoting various brands on campus while reporting to the Campus Manager Siyanda Mthiyane at the time and ended up getting the chance to become a Tata Ambassador, which was three months promotion whereby one was given the Tata mini truck to promote at cash build and also award people test drives.

MOTIVATION

I’m hardworking, punctual, determined and organised individual who works well as an individual and in a team. I’m driven by my ambition and thirst for new experiences, as well as my day to day hunger for success, rich in innovative skills and ethical behavior as well in interpersonal attributes necessary for the establishment of good employee and client satisfactory relations. I regard myself as an asset needed to bring about a positive change both in business and socially. I’m quick at grasping new ideas and concepts and to develop innovative and creative solutions to problems. I’m rich in leadership skills, customer interaction skill and even under significant pressure; I possess a strong ability to perform effectively. The Promoter role was really an eye opener as it exposed me to the pleasures of team work, negotiation, conflict and how to best go about resolving it and so forth which really helped as one got to work in the corporate environment. Ever since then I’m a step closer to achieving my goal of being a seasoned HR Generalist. I have a vast interest and hunger for the field as it exposes you to a lot of interaction with business, associates and the union which is really a complex field that one should master before deciding to specialize as it sets the ground basics of HR and molds one into becoming a Manager of their own portfolio which in turn prepares you for a Managerial Role.

I’m in need of an Organization that is willing to groom me within the role and also taking into consideration that I have a vast hunger for being a seasoned HR business partner one day, and be loyal towards the company as thanks for the vested training in me. References
