KNOWLEDGE BASE, DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES COVERED:

Mechanical/ Construction – knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance

Use and application of pre and post weld heat treatment tools. Use of power tools, grinding machine, cutting machine and proper handling of electrodes using quivers

Tack welding, cleaning and proper deposition of weld metals following the correct sequence – Rooting, Hot Passing, Filling and Capping Welds.

Ability to manipulate the welding torch to avoid weld defects like undercut, burn through, cold lap, excess weld cap etc

Basic knowledge of weld defects and technique for avoiding such

Proper cleaning of various weld passes to avoid solid inclusions, like slag inclusion, in the weld metal

Avoiding the use of defective equipment and use of dampened electrodes

Knowledge of the control measures for handling various categories of welding electrodes, vacuum packed, low hydrogen electrodes, cellulosic, rutile electrodes and stainless steel electrodes.
