Supervised by Dr. Jose Oberholzer, Director of the Islet and Pancreas Transplant Program and the Chief of the Division of Transplantation.

Sterilized the laboratory and ensured proper functioning of equipments prior to arrival of the donor pancreas; assisted in cannulation, digestion, perfusion, purification, and culture of donor pancreas for islet cell transplantation and research; sampled product and media throughout the digestion process at various times to monitor the product and provide information on safety, identity, purity, and potency of the islet cells; assisted in culturing the islet cells in non-adherent flasks in a physiologically ideal and controlled environment; shipped islet cells to various U.S. research institutions and hospitals; and gathered retrospective data of pancreatic donors.

2008 Research Assistant, Brain Tumor Research Center, McGill University, Montreal Neurological Institute - Quebec, Canada (September 2005 - December 2008)

Supervised by neurosurgeon Dr. Rolando Del Maestro Cultured brain tumor stem cells in gelatin-coated plates, split cells whenever confluent and prepared fresh media for tumor stem cells. Duties included assisting in transformations with bacteria and plating on Ampicillin plates; bacterial purification; SDS-PAGE for visualization for plasmid isolation; DNA cloning and digesting with restriction enzymes; gel (DNA) extractions and use of gel electrophoresis on regular basis; DNA quantification; PCR to detect gene activity with specific DNA; tissue culture including splitting cells, counting and their subsequent transformations (working with L-cells).
