Consolidated Electronic, Motor & Hydraulic divisions into a single 90,000 sq. ft. facility. Gained a modernized facility, improved communication, and increased on-time delivery by 20%.

Managed a $40 million budget and 235 associates as Diebold launched the first new product line in 12 years. Worked with three sister plants in North America to improve product delivery and reduce inventory. Implemented two kaizen events per month. Became premier manufacturing facility.

Improved quality from 10,000 ppm rejected to only 500 ppm rejected, and increased on-time delivery from 65% to 85%.

Increased plant manufacturing space by 30,000 square feet to accommodate the transfer of additional products from another facility.

Trained staff to operate as self-directed work teams in a union environment that was not always receptive to new ideas. Teams were responsible for making challenging business decisions. Within 12 months, 25 teams had reduced supervisors from 6 to 3, and had out-produced 5 other North American operations to remain Diebold’s only union facility. Over all product cycle time went from 30 to 24 hours per unit.

Manufacturing Process Engineer, Diebold, Newark, OH, 1989- 1992

Through internal design for manufacturing and assembly, and working with external suppliers on lean concepts we improved the quality of raw materials and assemblies by 40%. Reduced inspection staff by 75% through comprehensive training of machine operators. Reduced scrap rates from $30,000 per month to $5,000 per month. Machine uptimes also improved, and the department received fewer returns.
