July 2010 to May 15, 2013: Barbara Reiser and Company Inc (Professional Guardian) and Guardianship Care Group Inc (Public Guardian) (Case manager)

Handle caseloads of individuals who have been adjudicated incapacitated by Probate Court (individuals who are incapacitated because of age or because of disability)

Apply for government benefits for wards including but not limited to applying for benefits (ie Social Security, Department of Veterans, Medicare and Medicaid, Waiver Programs etc. Agencies for individuals that are disabled United Cerebral Palsy Agency for Persons with Disabilities)

Research to determine ward’s assets

Handle appeals for wards within the Department of Agency for Persons with Disabilities.

Handle billings for the agency

Administrative duties consist of preparation of any and all documentation necessary in order to be able to comply with grants awarded to the public guardian

Attend Court Hearings related to the wards

Preparation of legal documentation required by the Probate Court in order for guardian to comply with Statute requirements.

Coordination with attorney’s, banks and wealth management companies.

Handle Inventory of ward’s assets in order to report same to the court

Assist Executive Director with Policy and Procedure requirements for both agencies including but not limited to employee job description, yearly evaluations and grievance procedures.

December 2003 through June 2010:Barreto & Romero, P.A., (Paralegal and Office Manager)

Handled all Guardianship Cases for the office along with Complicated Estates and Estate Litigation.

Prepared all accountings along with Initial Plan and Physician’s Report for filing with the court before deadline of April 1st of that year.

Prepared documentation to set up guardianship cases according to the guardianship type, ex. (Plenary, limited, property, person and property of minor, Emergency Temporary guardianships, etc.)

Oversee of all employees in the office to ensure productivity and handling of cases.

Interviewed all prospective new employees, tested them and prepared candidates for second interview with the attorney.

Met with prospective new clients and obtained necessary information for the attorney prior to attorney meeting with client.

Prepared all annual accountings along with Initial Plan and Physician Reports for filing with the court before deadline of April 1st of that year.

Worked directly with the Executive Director to prepare information necessary in order to obtain funding from the county.

Initiated the setting up of the Property Department to ensure that all necessary steps were taken in order to prevent liability for the agency.

Worked directly with the IT individual to set up software for the agency depending on the changes of the agency.

Developed the agencies Chapter 400 Wheel including meeting with all prospective attorneys that were seeking to become part of the wheel. Reviewed all of the attorney’s credentials, etc. Worked directly with IT individual to develop the Chapter 400 Wheel.

Prepared and presented, presentations to the Agencies Board according to the changing needs of the agency.

Attended criminal court proceedings for ward’s that had criminal cases and met directly with the public defender involved in each case.

Attended Baker Act Hearings at Jackson for ward’s that were being baker acted and assisted Mental Health attorney with information necessary prior to the hearings.

Met directly with the probate judges, probate attorneys and criminal court judges in order to determine the handling of incapacitated individuals in the community who were being picked up by the police and were being sent directly to jail versus being sent to hospitals for baker act treatment.

Worked directly with case management department in order to verify that case managers were taking the correct steps in the managing of each case to prevent liability to the agency.

Worked directly with the intake department as needed in issues concerning liability in relationship with the agency.
