Implementation of Manufacturing Cost Planning

MCP is the system that uses SAP SEM BPS for calculation of Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), used in the Profit & Loss Statement. This project involved the design of SAP BPS system for the same and its maintenance.

SAP R/3 does not calculate or keep track of cost variances to the standard costs of products at the product level. Therefore, the company has to create this functionality outside of SAP R/3 and then feed it to the Global Planning System (GPS), ESSBASE, etc. SAP R/3 only records COGS by plant by each item’s overall cost. However, the business requires additional detailed information to manage and analyze COGS. MCP will meet this need by reporting COGS via the following:

•Customer hierarchy (i.e., Customer Development Team - CDT)

•Major Brand (grouping of detailed SKU’s by packaging configuration)

•Cost Component (ingredients, packaging, overheads, etc.)
