PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS:
Spearheaded a multi-functional team to extend calculator life cycle beyond the typical 18 months. Utilized cutting edge displays, battery, integrated circuit, packaging, and automation to break a costly cycle, lower production costs. Results: 10 year calculator product life enabled funneling millions to new product development.
Invented a simple micro-processor for computer peripherals. Identified a need create programmable devices, utilized design processes relevant to the era, reduced the result to hardware. Result: A re-programmable board to control diverse peripherals without hardware changes.
Gained investor financing for an advanced robotic project. Created and presented a plan to venture capitalists proposing the development, manufacture and sales of high accuracy, six axis vision guided, assembly robots. Result: Gained $32M in investments and in less than 3 years, the company grew to 200 employees, with $9M in backlog.
Decreased expenses for a company operating at lower than normal gross profit. Reduced inventory, decreased shrinkage and improved the manufacturing process to reduce scrape from 14% to 4%. Result: Increased gross margin 12% for a $2.9m quarterly improvement in profit on $23m in quarterly sales.
Restructured a product development effort. Reorganized the R&D Department responsible through writing a complete specification and ensuring appropriate talent was hired. Results: Turned around a failing effort, creating the next generation of LAN testers and gained a majority market share.
Convinced a large company that a small company could reliably create a critical system. Demonstrated proprietary technology and production capability to run a 24/7 robotic automation system Result: System represented 50% of company sales totaling ~$3.6M.
Reduced product cost by 65%, enabling successful sales. Managed a small team that planned and utilized innovative methods to cost-reduce the components and streamline the manufacturing process. Results: The product grossed revenues of over $35 million in the first year.
Proposed a new line of single and multiple point discrete wide ranging I/O to a company losing market share. As R&D manager, analyzed existing technology, employed state of the art improvements and created an innovative design. Result: Achieved the fastest growing I/O of its type ever developed, creating a 30% increase in the value of the company, dominating all competition.
Launched the redesign of a key component to modernize an existing mill feed. Identified product design deficiencies, recruited technical staff to capably complete the required design. Results: An easily produced, lower cost higher efficiency unit that recaptured market share.
Unified the development of industrial controllers for two entities of a conglomerate. Created a collaborative environment through active listening and providing constructive feedback to both teams, establishing common understanding Result: Reduced redundant staff and processes creating division wide cost savings.
