MECHANICAL ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE

Design of Collation Machine Using Rollers (Senior Project)

Andrews University Berrien Springs, MI www.andrews.edu

08.14 - 05.15

Achievements

oCollaborated in a team of two and to develop, design, and build the proof concept for a roller driven paper collating machine that collates paper booklets aiming to reduce small factory workloads and helping with time management.

oWorked on multiple iterations and designs including full mechanical and electrical driven systems. Choose to build the electrical system with rollers driven motors and programmed using an Arduino chip. Designed the circuit for the system.

oModeled on SolidWorks two different designs and came up with a spring system to prevent jamming of the paper. Constructed a working prototype within the time constraint and limited budget. Using workshop tools, milling machine, and a lathe.

oPresentation was held in front of school board of education and engineering professors.

Design and Simulation of a Heat Sink

Andrews University Berrien Springs, MI www.andrews.edu

02.15 - 04.15

Achievements

oDesigned my own heat sink on SolidWorks and then simulated the heat flux and air flow through the heat sink using COMSOL.

oSimulation done with different material, different wind speeds, and slightly different heat sink designs. Calculated and presented the differences in each.

oData Acquisition was organized and viewed on Matlab.

oPresented the simulation vs the analytical calculations for comparison.

Design of Venetian Swing (Senior Class Project)

Andrews University Berrien Springs, MI www.andrews.edu

08.14 - 12.14

Achievements

oClass was split into groups consisting of a drafting team, modeling team. analytical calculations team, and a FEA team

oWorked on initial drafting and load calculations for the boat and attachments for the swing alone while the rest of the team worked on frame and support structure.

oCommunication was important to ensure minimal mistakes and rework was done. Collaborated with all teams while helping complete project after my portion was done.

oRevisited initial to change design and make the structure more plausible. Worked with the assembly team in modeling on SolidWorks and made sure the project was ready for FEA.

oCompleted project was presented with plans to continue the project with the following year’s class. Whole Project is planned to be completed and built in 4 years.

Hot Working of Metal

Andrews University Berrien Springs, MI www.andrews.edu

03.12 - 05.12

Achievements

oGroup of eight people tasked with viewing what hot working does to steel when used in a process to improve knowledge of strengths of materials.

oWorked in a lab to gain results such as Rockwell Hardness, and cell structure.

oFolded metal through hot working with a furnace at known temperatures. Knowledge of strengthening was applied through quenching and annealing.

oHardness testing was done for experimental results. Cell structure of metal was viewed under a microscope after polishing.

Mold and Casting of a Paper Weight

Andrews University Berrien Springs, MI www.andrews.edu

08.13 - 09.13

Achievements

oDesigned and modelled on a CAD software a complex buggy shaped paper weight then constructed a mold to incase the figure. Planning was done to prevent the breaking of the mold to be reusable for multiple cast for future reference.

oTolerance was achieved to make up for the difference from computer to actual results.

oA mold was then printed and used with melted aluminum to make the miniature buddy.

oThe project came out a success resulting in a complex design that came out of a mold that could be reused repeatedly.
