Institute: Department of Microbiology

All India Institute of Medical Sciences

New Delhi-110029, India

Mentor: Prof. Bimal Kumar Das

Summary of thesis: CSF samples were collected from suspected patients for acute bacterial meningitis (ABM). Multiplex PCR was performed to find the etiological agents of (ABM).

Epidemiological study: Neisseria meningitides isolated from cases of ABM were further studied in detailed at molecular level for antibiotic sensitivity, sequence type and outer membrane proteins (porA and FetA) diversity.

Outcome: Ciprofloxacin resistance was reported with gyrA mutation. Same sequence type was found in all the strains. No diversity was found in outer membrane protein.

Take home message: Same clone was circulating in Delhi, India from 2005 to 2012
