PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Composite Technology Development Lafayette, CO 2003 to Present
Senior Engineer, Test Engineer
Design, build and qualify standard and non-standard test fixturing for prototype material evaluations at cryogenic temperatures. Evaluate materials for test fixturing at cryogenic temperatures, design and build data acquisition systems test process specifications and documentation.
Promoted through increasingly responsible projects and assignments to Senior Engineer, managing the testing department, technician activities, mentoring of technicians and young engineers while managing test program flow to meet customer deadlines.
Concurrent work as Equipment Engineer, responsible for evaluating and supporting ongoing equipment health, service, calibrations and repairs; Safety Officer and Radiation Safety Officer,
•Support customer programs by designing tests to meet desired criteria, communicating with customers about potential sources of error, analyzing data recorded and preparing final reports.
•Significant technical writing and documentation, briefing/presentation and technology responsibilities.
•Design and evaluate reinforcement layups for innovative materials applications (i.e. Elastic memory composites) and processes for similar non-reinforced structural foams.
•Evaluate and establish tests, design systems, and analyze data for nanotube applications in thermal transfer under vacuum conditions.
•Evaluation of material properties, both composites and alloys, at temperatures ranging from 4 K to 573 K
MAJOR PROJECTS & ACHIEVEMENTS
•Designed and fabricated a system for testing TPS (Thermal Protection System) to tank wall bond integrity at 20 K (NASA Cryoflex Test), while keeping the TPS exposed to ambient conditions in excess of 1 hour duration while minimizing cryogen usage. Paper presented at ICMC Tucson, AZ June, 2015
•Designed and implemented fixturing, processes and process specifications for composite specimen fabrication and testing at temperatures from 4 K to 573 K.
•Designed and developed testing techniques and documentation systems for bond integrity testing of JWST Main Structure and Backplane Support structure at temperatures ranging from 14 K to 38 K for NASA GSFC. Paper presented at NSMMS, Belleview, WA June, 2013
Ball Aerospace and Technologies Boulder, Colorado 1995 to 1999
Prototype Machinist/Technician
•Aided in manufacturing and assembly of 4 K/20 K/ 120 K space based cryocooler
•Worked on NICMOS cryogen loss evaluation (thermal short in solid Nitrogen dewar)
•Fabricated and assembled thermal and harnessing mockups for Commercial Space Systems bus structures (ICESAT, QUICKSCAT, CLOUDSAT,QUICKBIRD I)
