At Taneja Law (June 2007 – Present)
- Participated in, conservatively, over 500 commercial and residential transactions in various capacities. These were all individual or small business transactions. Some of the businesses included gas stations, retail stores, restaurants etc.
- Represented, under the supervision attorneys, clients and all major financial institutions in Canada (first and second tier lenders) in negotiating and drafting commercial and residential loans.
- Negotiated and drafted new leases for our clients with landlords. Informed clients of their indemnity and any other obligations for a given assignment or a sublease.
- Drafted closing documents for commercial and residential transactions at every level.
- This is just my transactional experience. Over the years, given this was my family’s transaction, I have almost become a manager of the two-office law firm.
- Participated in every major decision that the firm has made over its existence as an entitly. From choosing the first location to expanding to the second and possible future relocations due to increase in profits, I have been there through all of these decision. - The lead summer associate in two asset purchase transactions. The same client, MyHealth Centre, were our client for both the transaction. MyHealth bought two diagnostic centers in northern Ontario. It was a relatively young company at the time, trying to become one of the leading diagnostic center brands in the province of Ontario.
- Participated in preparing a promotional campaign for a new resort project that a partner was introducing to a local resort association on behalf of his investor client.
- Initiated research for medical marijuana for a health conference hosted by the firm to attract business for a growth industry that were Medical Marijuana dispensaries at the time. At Jyoti Sagar and Associates (May 2013 – July 2013)
- Assisted a partner with a couple of private equity transactions. JSA is one of India’s most prestigious law firm and I had the opportunity to intern when a great many U.S. investors were looking to invest in the country. It introduced me to private equity transactions and private funding as a concept.
- I participated in primarily two transactions. One involved one of India’s largest cinema companies (PVR) acquiring other smaller cinema companies with funding. And second one was a joint venture transaction for Dish TV in Sri Lanka.
- Both of these were primarily document review and drafting roles.
- I was also assigned a researching role for the PVR transaction. Here, I had to research certain tax and securities issues.
