Accountants must not only possess broad knowledge of accounting but also have the ability to communicate this knowledge effectively. I offer thirteen plus years of accounting experience as well as training and teaching experience and I would like to put my skills and experience to use for your firm.
Upon receiving my BBA from Sam Houston State University, I landed the Controller position with Allison Chevrolet in Jasper, Texas. I modernized the accounting processes of the dealership to accommodate a switch to a Windows based Dealer Management Software. I was always enthusiastic about the challenge of helping my coworkers succeed through process improvement and diagnosing and correcting any problems they had, which included training them on the new software. I became known as the “troubleshooter”: any time my fellow employees had problems, I was the one they would call.
In February 2010, I became the Purchaser for DETCOG, where I minimized expenses by improving the procurement process of the organization and connecting with new vendors. My previous accounting experience also enabled me to streamline several of the accounting processes. I also orchestrated a complete overhaul of the fixed asset inventory by restructuring the subledgers, creating an asset tag master index, and implementing a WASP barcode system. While my responsibilities were smaller in scope than at the dealership, I still completed many accounting tasks and once again became the resident troubleshooter. After a one year hiatus from accounting to teach at my alma mater, I moved to Houston to enter the consulting world. As an independent contractor I have assisted on SOX compliance projects with WG Consulting, and recently completed an invoice recalculation project with CBIZ. While I have enjoyed this line of work I prefer to secure a more stable position. I pride myself in doing the right thing so I desire a company with a strong sense of ethics. I seek to be in a place where hard work is valued and innovative thinking is appreciated. I prefer the excitement of new challenges rather than the doldrums of a redundant atmosphere.
