I shadowed for a couple weeks then began assisting, which included greeting and seating patients and assisting the Dentist with the procedures. Assisted in opening the office and preparing for the morning, which included tray setups and patient operatory room preparation. Placed Blood Pressure Cuff and charted final readings of heart rate and blood pressure. Procedures included composite and amalgam fillings, crowns and crown build-ups and took impressions for crowns, dentures and a mouth guard. Assisted in placing and removing lead apron upon patient before, during and after procedures. Sterilization of instruments and sterilization monitoring of both Autoclave and Ultraclave.

I learned proper suctioning techniques, passing of instruments and developed bitewing films using a digital processor. I also cleaned and disinfected patient operatory rooms and made sure rooms were ready for the next patient of the day.
