CURRENT ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Diagnosis and management of pediatric patients with neurological disorders in the Outpatient department (OPD). I examine approximately 400 patients per week with a variety of neurological disorders including cerebral palsy, epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders,neurodegenerative disorders, neuro-metabolic disorders, neuro-behavioral disorders and others
Diagnosis and management of pediatric patients presenting with neurological emergencies in the Emergency Department. Presentations include acute encephalopathy, raised intracranial tension, stroke, acute onset flaccid weakness (including Guillain-Barre Syndrome), meningitis and others.
Management of patients admitted to Neurology wards and intensive care units (PICU and NICU).
Management of pediatric patients in Neurology subspeciality clinics namely Neurocysticercosis clinic, Genetics clinic, Neurodevelopmental clinic and Neuromuscular disorders clinic.
Performing procedures and tests in pediatric neurological patients including lumbar puncture, muscle biopsy, nerve biopsy, neostigmine challenge test, dynamometry and others. Experience of performing over 100 muscle and nerve biopsies.
Routinely performing ancillary investigations like EEG, Nerve conduction study, Electromyography and others. Experience of having reported around 700 EEGs and 150 NCSs & EMGs.
Conducting research as part of two theses completed in August 2015.
Involved in teaching various topics in Pediatric Neurology to undergraduate medical students and postgraduate students in Pediatrics.
Active participation in departmental activities like public health lectures, organizing seminars and conferences, planning and designing information booklets related to neurological disorders for patients and their parents.
