PROFILE

A Technical Illustrator and Graphic Designer with over 25 years’ Europe–wide experience of creating technical illustrations and manuals for major firms within the automotive, railway and aviation industries. Highly skilled, creative and precise in the use of specialised software, but also able to understand and manage projects within the wider context of the firm and the industry. Experienced, also, in the public, voluntary and creative sectors, often working on a small scale and translating concepts into images, with an ability to link design with organisational and community development.

SKILLS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Technical illustrator: attention to detail enables me to pick up on inconsistencies like those between manual drawings and the details on a car or in the engineering file. Successfully delivered VLU and SSL projects, and 377/6 and 377/7, for Southern Trains.

Graphic designer: can think myself into the requirements and perspectives of a wide range of producers and audiences. Produced designs for NHS, Birmingham Council, Urban Living, community groups and many commercial organisations.

Software use: I have spent enough time with key software packages to understand the language of the developers and therefore to produce optimal results. Software used includes: CATIA V5, AutoCAD Mechanical 2015, Arbortext ISODraw 7.1, 3dsMax 2015, Adobe After Effects CC (plus Illustrator and Photoshop), PDM Production Database Management system, Pro/ENGINEER STEP files and CGM.

Teacher/enabler: all my work starts from the perspective of the person who has to interpret drawings in the real world – your railway carriage, for example, won’t get built correctly if all the labels aren’t in the right place to be seen and read.

Project Manager: projects for Bombardier, Jaguar and Valley Forge among others.
