Database Administrator Sr. 11/2003 to Present

As an Oracle Database administrator I supported numerous Air Force Personnel database systems including Automated Records Management System (ARMS), Military Personnel data system (MILPDS), Virtual Personnel Centre (Vpsc), Air Forms promotions system (AFPROMS).

Responsibilities included:

Lead team of database administrators, HR Functional administrators, Data Management teams.

Lead technical feasibility analysis on large scale cloud migrations for ERP systems.

Lead effort to develop policies and procedures for high system availability and business continuity measures.

Database Administrator Sr. 03/2002 to 11/2003

I worked as an Oracle Database administrator for the Automated Records Management System (ARMS) legacy conversion project for the Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph AFB. The task involves mapping of legacy Informix database to the current Oracle database server. Setting up database alerts and monitoring thresholds to ensure 24X7 system availability. Responsibility involved maintenance and support of the Air force Personnel Databases (MILPDS) and related USAF personnel unique systems.

Responsibilities included:

Identified hardware requirements and implemented best practices for standing up database instances.

Designed and developed backup and recovery measures using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN).

Assisting Developers with PLSQL coding / SQL queries and analyzing database performance issues.

Database Administrator 11/1998 to 03/2002

Worked a database administrator for a system integration project. This was an Immunization Record Management system for the Department of Defense. The earlier version was supported only in Oracle.

Responsibilities included:

Identifying tools for conversion.

Highlighting specific bottlenecks in converting source code from Oracle to INFORMIX. Study of existing application and providing workarounds for features used in Oracle database not supported by INFORMIX database.

Installation of INFORMIX server and client applications. Configuration of Connectivity software for Enterprise Applix, which was the front end tool. Configuration of INFORMIX server to support OLTP operations.

Installation involved setting up of development and test environments. The development and test database contained conversion of Oracle database to INFORMIX database.

Data transfers, coding of stored procedures and triggers in INFORMIX database.

Setting up Archive cycles.

Packaging of INFORMIX database with COTS application.

Involved in technical assessment of candidates as INFORMIX DBA for a permanent position in the client office.

Training the database administration staff in server configuration and database operations.

Worked on a benefits administration processing for US Bancorp system.

Involved in DBA and development activities for the migration of the database from the client work site to the development system and from the development system to the production system.
