Principal owner of control systems integration firm. Hands on project engineer for electrical and automation projects for a wide variety of process industries. The company sale increased 28% year after year.

1989-1999 PID Inc.

Engineering Manager – Started up engineer division increased sales to support a group of five engineers and two CAD personnel. Provided engineering management and product support for this industrial E&I equipment supplier. Responsible for hands on project design, implementation and start-up, engineering supervision, customer relations and technical sales support. Help grow the department from a non sales group to $2 million in sales.

1985-1989 James River Corporation

Electrical Project Engineer – Responsible for automation and electrical projects throughout the corporate pulp and paper manufacturing facilities. Instrumental in profit sustaining and profit adding automation and electrical systems projects.

Sample Project Experience

Responsible for the design and implementation of various electrical and controls projects.

These include:

Material Handling (Pulp and Paper)

Implemented five node PLC system for converting finished goods, sorting, moving and palletizing. Responsible for complete electrical system design, custom Bar Code Interface programming, PLC programming, installation supervision, and startup. Project significantly reduced labor costs, increased production efficiency and production capacity.

Implemented PLC based system to automate the dumping of wood chip trucks and the delivery of wood chips. Responsible for complete electrical system design, PLC programming, MMI programming, installation supervision and startup. The goal for this project was to reduce production costs and downtime. Successful implementation exceeded expectations significantly.

Hydro Systems

Provided control concepts and PLC programming for the automation of three 1.5MW hydro generators. Project reduced the facilities electrical costs such that it would also benefit from selling access power back to the utility.

Combustion Controls

Provided complete turnkey control system including electrical and instrumentation system design, control philosophy design and SAMA documentation, software design and implementation, installation supervision, commissioning and startup. The primary goal of this project, to increase efficiency and steam capacity was successfully met.

Waste to Energy

Provided complete turnkey PLC/SCADA control systems including electrical and instrumentation system design, control philosophy design and SAMA documentation, software design and implementation, installation supervision, commissioning and startup. This consisted of many successfully completed projects for an international energy company whose goal was to increase production efficiency, reduce downtime and labor costs.

Chemical

Turnkey control system design and installation for process batch control and material handling.

Machine Control

Provided PLC, HMI and SCADA programming for OEM manufactured equipment built to produce metallic coated plastic utensils. The successful implementation of this project allowed the OEM to uniquely market their product resulting in increased sales.

PLC and SCADA programming for OEM manufactured equipment built to produce heart stent implants for the medical industry.
