In the context of a technological agreement with Nippon Kokan NKK and Huachipato, participation in a training trip to Fukuyama, JAPAN, during one month in 1980. Design, programming and start-up of a coordination and production planning system of the soaking pits and slabbing and billet mill, including an interactive simulation model developed at Huachipato. Participation in the start-up of the Electric Steelshop in Huachipato, designed for special steel production, including Ladle Furnace and Vacuum Treatment. Technical Counselling, production and quality problems, operating procedures definition and standardization. Preparation of a Operation Handbook. Development of computer model for charge calculation and ferroalloy additions, with cost minimization.

In the context of the Electric Steelshop operation, a trip to VENEZUELA to the ILAFA meeting of the 1er Encuentro de Operadores de Acerías Eléctricas. From 1991 to 1993, Executive Assistant of the Continuous Casting Department with 74 employees. Group leader of the training in Continuous Casting organized by United Engineers & Consultants UEC, in Altos Hornos de Vizcaya, ESPAÑA for two weeks and in U.S.Steel Gary Works in USA for another two weeks. Training of the operators and start-up of the caster. Group Leader of the training in Ladle Furnace operation in Udine, ITALIA, for two weeks, specially in ABS (Accaieria Bertoli Safau), in Udine, ITALIA. Start-up of the furnace once back in Chile. Operating procedures standarization and preparation of the operating Handbook. General Management of the department, personnel management, control of materials, Maintenance Control, etc..

From January 1994 up to 2001 Superintendent of the Continuous Casting Department with more than 100 employees.

Development to raise production levels up to 500.000 tons/year a first step- Process changes in 1997 to reach 550.000 tons/year and getting over 600.000 tons/year in 1999. Management of the Department including budget control, materials, training, environment personnel, safety, etc ...

In 1996 trip to USA and Canada to visit different steel industries (Georgetown, Kansas, Alta Steel), as well as Mexico, to learn about Hydrogen Control in steel bars for mill ball manufacturing, as well as pseudo rimming steel manufacturing in billet continuous casting. During 1998 a short trip to ITALIA to Piombino Steelmaking facilities to participate in GSI (Grinding Sytems Tecnology) research in mill ball manufacture with small rolling reduction. Leadership as Superintendent for further development with another Ladle Furnace and a Billet Caster, start-up and arrive to a 40.000 ton/month production level. Personnel growth up to 138 employees in the Continuous Casting Department to operate both machines During 1999 group leader in a four week training in Continuous Casting of billets in Udine and Piombino, ITALIA. Visit to Continuous Casting of Billet machines in SWITZERLAND and Donawitz, AUSTRIA and the Slab Casters in Linz, AUSTRIA.

Start-up of the Billet Caster starting December 1999, finishing the necessary metallurgical developments by July 2000 and closing the soaking pits and Slab and billet mill end of September. Since middle of March 2001 and up to this date head of the Metallurgical Research and Development Department. In this context in charge of the Laboratories, but also often technical advising to Customers and Problem Solving. Product development is also one of our tasks. As well as some counselling to production Departments (Caster, Hot and Cold rolling mill, Bar rolling mill, Zinc-Alum coating line and Tinplate manufacturing line. In june 2001 participation in a Hot Rolling Course by J. Jonas, organized by IAS, in Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA. During 2001, in October, Group Leader in a three week training in Continuous Casting of Slabs and Billets by VAIS in Linz and in Donawitz, AUSTRIA. During 2004 and 2005 modernizing mechanical testing and metalography laboratories. In August 2005 the laboratories are accredited to the Instituto Nacional de Normalization for chemical analysis of steels through optical emission spectrometry and tensile testing of metallic materials according to NCh-ISO 17025 standards.

Since September 1, 2005 working in the Engineering Department as Consultant of Industrial Processes, in the context of the beginning of a 1000 million dollar investment plan. These modernizations include oxygen and natural gas injection in the blast furnaces, bottom blowing in the oxygen converters, use of sublance and dynamic blowing models, and installation of a tank degasser – VD – at the secondary metallurgy. Also a new bar rolling mill is included in the modernization plan, as well as redesigning the existing one. In July 2006, trip to BRASIL to evaluate technically TUPY fundiciones S.A., maker of engine blocks for cars and trucks, and autoparts, in his plants in Joinville, Santa Catherina and Mauá, Sao Paulo, Brasil in the context of a due diligence for CAP S.A. In September 2007 participation in training of Special Bar Quality steels (SBQ) prepared by DANIELI, supplier of a new bar mill for Huachipato S.A: In june 2009, retired from Huchipato Steelplant due to world crisis.
