As the owner/operator of an independent office supplies and furniture business, I coordinated all facets of the business including market and requirements analysis, identification of suitable suppliers in Germany and the United Kingdom, preparation of written proposals, catalog creation, order fulfillment and other logistical aspects related to planning, transportation, supplies and customer support. I was awarded a GSA contract and two Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPA’s) for the sale of office supplies and furniture to US forces throughout Europe. Through the contract and the BPA’s, I ensured timely operational supply support to the US military that ranged from routine garrison operations to logistical support for joint contingency operations. I organized all aspects of planning my business program and operation to include human relations activities for a multi-national workforce that numbered between 2-5 persons and resource management of sales that averaged between 445,000-800,000 USD annually.

I served as an independent field representative for KOPA GmbH, a German-owned office supply and furniture company with annual sales of approximately 12.0 million USD to US government and military organizations in Germany, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. In this position, I conducted requirements analysis and met with customers to developed written and oral project proposals which included supply and transportation oversight procedures from order justification and development to order fulfillment. By implementing studies and analyses of Army organizational relationships, I was able to provide substantive supply support to meet customer needs. I coordinated order fulfillment with the appropriate US government and military contracting and finance offices and directly supervised a multi-national workforce that ranged in size from 2-6 personnel.

I worked for the US Army Europe as Project Manager for the establishment of a Training Resource Assistance Center (TRAC) located in Mainz, Germany. The TRAC project was designed to provide a full range of training aids and graphics support on a regional basis for US Army forces in Europe. As the Project Manager, I coordinated all aspects of the program from developing the overall mission scope and requirements analysis to the actual opening of the TRAC. During the course of this project, I established, recommended and implemented the standard operating procedures for the center to include methods for requesting, organizing, filling and accounting for approximately 1,200 lines of training aids and graphics materials. I initiated a system for coordination with next higher headquarters including required reporting procedures, while gaining knowledge of Army logistical regulations and principles. In addition to management oversight for the development and implementation of the operation and supply procedures for the TRAC, I interviewed and hired much of the initial staff for the center. In this capacity, I coordinated with multiple agencies involved in the hiring process and exercised a direct supervisory role over the TRAC staff of six multi-national personnel.

Co-Owner

Disco Clam Company

1975-1982

I served as co-owner of Disco Clam Company, a wholesale shellfish supplier that covered the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. In this position, I directly oversaw the entirety of company operations, which totaled in excess of 1.0 million USD per year, from market and needs analysis, new market acquisition, coordination with suppliers, and supervision of the sorting and packaging operations to product delivery to customers. In addition to the oversight of company operations, I served as Vice-President of the Brookhaven Baymen’s Association, an industry oversight and regulatory body. In this capacity, I served on the New York State Shellfish Advisory Board, which coordinated environmental and commercial regulatory policy for the industry.

Military Service:

Trained and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Artillery branch. Honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of Captain, 03. Positions held included Bn. S-3 operations officer, Bn. Training officer and Bn. Motor Pool Officer. Upon assignment to Germany, I was the only 8th Inf. Division Officer to be trained and qualified in FADAC, the first artillery computer system designed to speed and bring greater accuracy to fire direction. I helped organize and was operations officer for the first division wide training class for this system, and a notice was placed in my military record by the Division Commander. I held a top secret security clearance.
