Responsibilities: Utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions as foundation to enlighten consumers of the effects of thoughts, feelings, and actions, how it relates to their negative behavior or emotional outburst, and provided various positive outlooks to approach
negative situations; engage other people, and events. Consumers and families were provided assistance with developing goals and creating plans to achieve those goals. Assisted consumer with building skills to self- manage emotions and negatives behaviors, identify precipitants of negative behaviors and emotional outburst at school, home, and in the community. Presented the opportunity to build social and communication skills, decrease impulsivity, and promote self-confidence and self-esteem, through therapeutic intervention strategies. Assisted consumers and or parents with building job skills such as resume writing, computer skills, interview skills, job search, and providing on the job support. Position: (Senior Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist): Floated for a two years between Acute Rehab Unit, TBI Unit, and Psych.
Population Served on Acute Rehab & TBI Units: Post Stroke, Back Surgery, Total Hip/Knee Replacements, Closed Head Injury, Spinal Surgery, Open Heart Surgery.
Responsibilities: Perform evaluations, progress notes, and implement therapeutic activites to help build and or maintain function. Member of discharge planning.
Population Served on Pysch: (Adults and Geriatrics, ages 18-90+) Adults were dual diagnosed having a mental illness and substance abuse or just required Detox. Mental illnesses that were common to the unit were Bipolar, Schizoaffective, Schizophrenia, Eating Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Major Depression, or Borderline Personality Disorder. Substance Abusers treated on unit were abusing Prescription drugs, Meth, Alcohol, Crack/Cocaine/ and Marijuana. Most Geriatric client’s diagnoses were Change in Mental Status, Alzheimer’s, Schizophrenia, and Dementia.
Responsibilities: (Adults) Providing direct care, in charge of developing, planning, and coordinating therapeutic programs and activities consisting of individual and group counseling sessions on various topics such as coping skills (Anger, Anxiety, Stress, Money Management and Relapse Prevention/ Substance Abuse Counseling). Assisted clients with identify positive and appropriate leisure activities, and life skills such as job skills, social skills, and identifying the triggers of their negative behavior (ex. aggression, substance abuse, & etc.). Modified interventions to meet the needs of clients. (Geriatrics) Provided cognitive activities such as reminiscence, current events, sittercise, fine/gross motor, arts and crafts activities to maintain function and performance of life skills such as Activities of Daily Living. Collaborated with clients to set short/long term goals, in order to provide client-centered approach.
