Experience
Android Development Intern, TapWalk, Boston, MA (September 2014-March 2015):
●Learning Android programming in order to help debug existing programs
●Worked with Java and XML
●Worked independently, without a mentor (except for one day a week when he came in)
Quality Assurance Intern, Transmyt Amrap4Life, Cambridge, MA (September-December 2013):
●Developed manual software testing workflows
●Learned some Git
●Explored through and learned about the JavaScript on the site
Software Engineer Intern, Basis Technology, Cambridge, MA, (June-July 2009):
●Helped integrate the Hebrew language into Basis’s name-entity recognition software by evaluating the output of two Israeli linguists’ part-of-speech-tagging of fifteen different Hebrew news articles (which they submitted to Basis in Excel format). I chose which person’s output I thought was most accurate. That output was then fed into the company’s program as training data. I also was on the team that chose which Hebrew part-of-speech tagger program (from various Israeli universities) we were going to use in Basis’s Hebrew product.
●I also programmed an Excel function which operated on both Israeli linguists’ Excel files
●Coded Java classes to extend functionality for open source Lucene search engine
●Constructed JUnit tests for Ant
●Edited Ant’s “pom” file
●Edited a Python script
●Attended daily scrum meetings
Software Engineer Intern, Silverscape, Somerville, MA (June-August 2008):
●Ported web pages in HTML/CSS from Photoshop PSD templates (made by in-house graphic-designers)
●Helped develop content management system framework using SQL and Flex
●Coded a widget for Silverscape’s own website using the JavaScript Scriptaculous framework (an extension of Prototype JS)
●Did some manual QA on webpages
Quality Assurance Intern, MavenHaven, Jerusalem, Israel (June-August 2007):
●Tested software product using manual workflows
●Created categorization system for computing the networks distances across individuals and organizations
●Led small team implementing algorithm development
Technology Consultant, Information Technology and Education Laboratory, Amherst, MA (January-December 2007):
●Aided campus users in navigating computer usage issues
●Set up auxiliary equipment for training
Technology Support Intern, Clinical System Technologies, Newton, MA (July 2005):
●Maintained and supported software installation
●Service operating system across department
●Saw what real programmers looked like and what they were working on
Personal Project Code
●I was inspired by all of the part-of-speech (e.g. noun, adjective) projects I was doing at Basis Technology, and since I love parts of speech, and I love grammar, I created a partially-implemented comma-inserter in JavaScript, which was built on top of an open-source JavaScript part-of-speech tagger. The link to my functions is below; full versions available upon request.
