Job History:

Contracting –

Experian Systems Analyst & Developer Aug 2015 – Oct 2015

Employed within the Consumer Information department to resolve issues on a legacy M204 system – specifically Credit Account Information Services (accepting daily & monthly update/ new record input files from various clients & pay day loan companies), whilst ensuring that data flows smoothly to a parallel run DB2 system, using COBOL/CICS.

Irish Life (ROI) Systems Analyst & Developer Jun 2014 – May 2015

Employed as part of the CLOAS BAU team as first line support for issues arising from the recent acquisition of another company’s book of business along with the administration of its systems. This involved forming both inter & cross company relationships with different aspects of the Business. When the workload allowed it, I also resolved various pieces of BAU work as well as providing assistance and support to colleagues where possible.

I gained invaluable experience in the use of Visual Studios & SQL Server as the company had recently migrated their Mainframe code & operations onto a .Net front-end.

NFU Mutual Business Systems Analyst Jul 2012 – Dec 2013

Initially employed to perform a statement data mapping exercise that comprised of being provided with a collection of various types of client output Pension statements and having to trace the data values displayed back through a Papyrus, COBOL and CLOAS interface and present the findings in an auditable document – ensuring that both the document and the language used within were accessible to persons with varying levels of understanding of IT systems – within a tight timeframe. The process involved being provided with an initial brief then being left to my own devices, quickly learning a new system and also interacting with members of different teams.

After my contract was renewed I was tasked to perform a primarily analytical role that involved sole responsibility for the investigation, documentation and decommissioning of an in-use legacy system along with its associated JCL, files and programs. In-house documents were also updated to reflect the changes. As the legacy system held live data that, initially, had yet to be migrated and, also shared key processes with other systems, continuous care had to be taken to ensure that during the removal, day to day performance was unaffected and there were no negative system issues.

My contract was once again extended in order for me to investigate and data fix around 2000 active policies upon the CLOAS production system that had had incorrect negative unit adjustments applied.

HCL Great Britain Business Systems Analyst & Developer Dec 2011 – Apr 2012

As part of an offshore, third-party supplier, I provided functional analysis and consultancy services to ensure the delivery of three high profile projects to both aggressive timescales and tight budgets; involving the administration of 458K active and, approximately, 325K terminated policies on the in-house, CAPSIL run IBM mainframe. I was also responsible for the analysis of a legislative system change that had resulted from the miss-selling of funds.

Permanent -

Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) Systems Analyst & Developer Jan 2009 – Nov 2011

Part of the Payments team within the Insurance and Investment division. The role comprised both big and small-scale project involvement, resolution of defects, dealing with business queries and general BAU work. In this time, I built up a good knowledge of specific Payment applications (e.g. BACS, Chaps, SWIFT & Faster Payments) and how they interface with other systems and I also gained a greater understanding of the use of these systems within the business.

Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) Systems Developer Jul 2004 – Jan 2009

I gained experience in Mainframe coding, using COBOL, CICS & DB2, on both an Endevor and SCLM platform and also obtained a working knowledge of JCL.

I volunteered to assist the programming support team – this involved dealing with technical queries, code reviews, batch support etc – which gave me an increased understanding of development methods and also taught me the best methods to ensure the maintenance of code quality and the necessity of adhering to coding standards.

To assist with extra workload, I was trained in MicroFocus/ Mainframe Express COBOL and also seconded to another team in Bristol which resulted in my training in Microsoft Visual Studios, C# .Net and ASP .Net, all of which were used in conjunction with my day to day skills.

Key achievements:

Data Migration project:

Ending a heritage, third-party relationship between LBG and Aviva and bringing 'in-house' the administration of half a million policies that resulted in a saving of £35 million to the group.

Having worked on this project for 15 months, I was an integral part of the team when it came to the 'Go Live' date. I worked on the initial analysis, program design, data transfer and eventual data conversion (ETL was required as a result of an intellectual rights issue between LBG and AVIVA, requiring data to be produced in a stand-alone format). My role in this project and knowledge of the systems resulted in me being offered a contract role within HCL Great Britain – an offshore supplier that assumed the administration of LBG systems.

Endowments Review project:

A requirement for endowment policies to keep investors informed of the progress of their policy and ensuring that their level of contributions is sufficient to maintain the required level of cover, by means of a regular policy review.

For this project, I was solely responsible for the analysis, development, testing, system test delivery and providing SME assistance to system testers. This involved liaising with numerous teams to ensure that the code hung together and worked across platforms to produce the expected result.

Same Day Payments Project:

Following the formation of LBG, a new procedure was needed to split payments between BACS and Same Day processing, also, creating an interface between the heritage HBOS system and that of Scottish Widows.

I assumed control of this project to ensure that it was delivered to a very tight deadline and budget. This involved managing 4 senior developers, regular meetings with different team leaders to provide progress updates, communicating with Scottish Widows and ensuring that the cross system process worked as expected.
