Design of vertical axis turbines and simulation of energy extraction from tidal currents

Conducted research to study the potential and costs of tidal energy as it has the potential to play a valuable part in a sustainable energy future. It is an extremely predictable energy source, depending only on the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun and the centrifugal forces created by the rotation of the earth–moon system. To effectively harness it a turbine was developed and modeled using CAD tool SOLIDWORKS, and CFD code Siemens NX is used for analysis to predict the local flow consequences with in the water column in a tidal flow.
