I am a vehicle design engineer with 30 years’ experience in automotive interior and exterior components. I have taken a high interest in Electric Vehicles. I was a major team member in the concept and design of the Tesla Model “S”.
I specialize in working closely with customers to obtain business and promote our company’s products throughout.
I have extensive experience in inner and outer body closures and mainly in Outer Class “A”, such as Instrument panels, Doors, Consoles, Front End Modules, BIW Structures, and Castings in Aluminum, Steel, Plastic and Hybrid.
I also know CAE (no software) NVH, Structural Engineering, and Pedestrian requirements.

I spent my time in the actual development side of products instead of going back to school to obtain my Ba degree although I do wish to return to school in my future. I did this by building my own CNC machine and building the fixtures for my products which I produce.

Designed, Engineered and developed a new power electric tonneau cover for new pick up trucks using Catia V5.

Responsible for the Design Engineering aspects to quote and obtain new business for RIM production methods using Solidworks for materials such as HGLFI (Hi Gloss Long Fiber Injection) and DCPD injection molds for large trucks. This includes traveling to the customer’s site and retrieving all the necessary data to complete the costing breakdown for the materials and the direct pricing for manufacturing and delivery.
Also provide support to our process and manufacturing team for smooth completion of the current products. This includes the design and development of jigs, fixtures, and go/no-go gauges using solidworks to keep reducing scrap.

Additional responsibilities include Lead Class "A" surface design for Fascia's for our department using Catia V5, Design for JS Sebring and Chrysler 200 2010 and 2012 refresh for front end system. Main design Lead for design support for new business ventures with our sales team.
03-2009 - 10-2010 was not able to find work due to the economy. I used this time to increase my knowledge in vehicle structures.

Responsible for the design and engineering of the center stack for the Chrysler 300 Instrument Panel. Also worked on the Top pad skin shutoff and the Decorative accent spears for the above mentioned. Responsible for the design and engineering of the front end structure for an all Electric 5 passenger luxury sedan. Duties include Design of an Aluminum, Steel, and Plastic Hybrid version of the Entire front end along with the Bumper Systems, Fascia, Grille, Lights, alignment to the Fenders and Hood. Met all CAE challenges involving Crash, Pedestrian Protection, packaging requirements, and servicing requirements. Also responsible for the design of the seat switches and console switches studies and the requirement sections and the design for “A” pillar, Lower Sill, floor, Shotguns, Cowl & Plenum, Wiper Modules and Shock Towers. Worked as metal stamping liaison for my fellow engineers utilizing my tooling background. (part of mass layoff once vehicle was completed)
01-2003 - 12-2006 HELLA-BEHR VEHICLE SYSTEMS Troy, mi Applications Engineer / Design Lead / Product Coordinator
Designed lightweight structures in Aluminum, Steel, Plastic and hybrid for front end systems. Worked closely with the customer teams and provided direction to my team to mount their parts onto our carrier, Wrote the DFMEAS, Set the Specifications for the product, Did all of the GD&T and Stack-ups for the F.E.M. to mount onto the vehicle. And led a 2 person design crew to help us achieve excellence. Created the check fixtures for holding and drilling to mount the components onto our carrier.

Designed all sorts of compass traveler packaging including switches and mechatronic interfaces to the PCB’s and Radio switch interfaces and housings. Also worked on transmission components and new products for R&D such as the Fluid condition monitor for automotive and military vehicles. Designed the New Concepts, worked closely with the customer. Built the prototypes and the Fixtures for various new products. Setup the testing specs, and lead a 3-person design crew to accomplish the task. Also worked on interior door trim and multiplex switches created door, mirror and seat switches. Ran a 4 person design crew (part of a mass layoff as division shut down)

Designed various interior trim components for multiple customers Worked with military contracts for various Hummer parts and the Apache Helicopter program.
