Quiet Supersonic Jet (QSJ)

Designed a mechanically controlled 3 segment supersonic Spike for noise boom reduction research. Worked as a sole designer responsible for all structural design consisting of composite tubes & fairings, machined bulkheads, fittings, sheet metal brackets/supports, pulleys and cables. Designed structural attachment of Spike to NASA’s F15B flight test aircraft for Quite Spike System and Structural verification. Design responsibility of both Flight Test and Ground Test Instrumentation installations, which consisted of accelerometers, strain gages (bending & torsional bridges), static pressures, temperatures and displacements. Designed custom Air Data Probe to installed on tip of spike to measure Total Pressure, Differential Pressures for Angle of Attack and Angle of Side Slip verification.

NASA – Synthetic Vision System Research (GV Aircraft)

Removed existing GV Heads Up Display (HUD), Combiner and Weather Radar Antenna and Support. Designed Structural and System installation to accommodate Rockwell Collins Heads Up Display, Weather Radar Antenna and Wave Guide Routing. Designed required extensive aircraft structural modifications to facilitate NASA’s required equipment installation.

GIV, GIV-X, GV and GV-SP

Designed Structural and System modifications to existing aircraft Structures, Hydraulics and Environmental Control System (ECS) for instrumentation installation onboard experimental aircrafts. Design modifications included: structural doublers, structural penetrations, sheet metal brackets and angles, machined details, localized structural beef ups, hydraulic line modifications and ECS duct penetrations. Duties consisted of 3D layouts, Installation and Detail Drawings of modifications from conception through to completion: Heads Up Display, Weather Radar/Wave Guide, APU Pressure Rakes, Pitot-Static Tubes, Thermocouples, Floor Board Ballasts, Aircraft Flow Visualization, Drainage Test, Enhanced Vision System Camera Cooling Ducts, Lightning and Rain Shield, Stall Chute Cable Structural Support Provisions, Lavatory Activation, Hydraulic Flow Schematic for Iron Bird, Roll Around Landing Gears (Nose and Mains), Engine Cowl Penetrations, Full Scale Fatigue Test Fixture for GV Stub Wing Structure, Simulated Horizontal Stabilizer and Landing Gears for Structural Tests.
