Consultant Occupational Health

Worked for this top Oil & Gas Company of United Arab Emirates.

Was responsible for auditing the quality of clinical, occupational health and administrative aspects of all pre-employment, periodic, ‘end of service’, ‘service extension’ medical examinations conducted for ADNOC and ADNOC group of companies and providing expert advice to ensure consistency and soundness of decision making. Developed an all-inclusive plan for Risk based Health Surveillance of the employees of ADNOC and ADNOC group of companies exposed to occupational health hazards while ensuring compliance with ADNOC codes of practice and other legislative requirements. Developed a unique OH tool to facilitate specific and authentic identification of the required levels of physical capabilities for acceptable and safe performance in different occupational roles alongside communication of reliable information about health-hazard exposures in those occupational roles. Recommended modification of Structure, Process and Outcome for OH function in line with Donabedian model. Developed KPIs for the OH function as well as referral criteria and trigger actions on encountering anomalous results for OH investigations.

Occupational Health Advisor

Led the occupational health performance of an enormous Oil & Gas Project of the UAE (UZ750) as their Occupational Health Advisor, wherein I was responsible for attaining the highest standards of performance for health, wellness and welfare of the project workforce. Besides providing expert technical advice on all occupational health and medical matters, I developed a standardized inventory for conducting Health & Hygiene inspections of all onshore and offshore project sites, ensuring exquisite compliance with the requirements of ADNOC codes of practice, developed a variety of health information and awareness campaign material, and led the facilitation of a unique workshop on ‘Heat Stress Management – Lessons Learnt’ in ‘train the trainers’ mode.

Developed a comprehensive and holistic ‘Health, Wellness and Welfare’ Strategy and Action-plan for this project that was formalized by management into a default inclusion for all its contracts as an ‘Exhibit’.

Worked for one of the leading ‘Fortune-500’ petroleum companies of India -- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited at their Refinery at Bombay (- the erstwhile Burmah Shell Refinery subsequently nationalized), from 25 May 92 to 22 Sep 2006, as their Occupational Health Physician, titled finally as ‘Manager Medical Services’. With around 3000 refinery employees, and a large refining capacity of 12 Million Metric Tons per annum, this Refinery produced Oil and Gas products compliant with Euro III standards. I was in-charge of providing the Occupational Healthcare services, Occupational Health monitoring, Occupational Hygiene surveillance and general Clinical Services for these employees, besides the administration and management of the Occupational Health Centre as well as taking care of the other constituents and stakes of the corporation. Consequent to this role, I became well conversant with the processes pertaining to the oil & gas industry, the hazards relevant to it as well as the best practices in relation to the HSE performance.
