I retired this past April after nearly 21 years at St. Elizabeth Crawfordsville.
I worked in the Patient Access Department. I retired as the Point of Service Rep. What is the Point of Service Rep.
I preregistered all the scheduled outpatient testing going through the hospital on any given day. I would then call the patient's insurance to get the patient's benefits and any discount the hospital gets for being in network.
I then would calculate the cost of the patient's test. I would then call the patient and give them the infomation..An estimate of what the insurance and the patient are responsible. This can be a very time consuming processes but I really enjoyed this position.
