WORK EXPERIENCES
Research Assistant, Aerospace Computational Methods Lab, Syracuse
Fitted Airfoils and Optimized Geometry Jan. 2015 – May 2015
Achieved the object building the geometry quickly and modifying the airfoil geometry intuitively.
Optimized round nose airfoil representation method with Kulfan’s method-“CST”, used less number of design variables and generated the geometry smoothly.
Fitted target airfoils with Newton Method and Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm in MATLAB, outputted the coefficients of the shape function. The LM method reduced the generation time from 200s to 20s, with a very low error of 10e-5.
Perfiled a User-Defined Primitive (UDP) with C using Kulfan’s representation method, inputted it to the open source system Engineering Sketch Pad (ESP).
CAD Drawing By Programming Aug. 2014 – Dec 2014
Plotted the Robin Helicopter in MATLAB with the super-ellipse equations.
Transferred the MATLAB program to Engineering Sketch Pad (ESP) prefile to generate the Robin Helicopter without setting branches.
Outputted the body shape to validate the capabilities of the Parallel Unstructured Maritime Aerodynamics (PUMA) flow solver.
CAE/CFD Internship, China Automotive Technology & Research Center, Tianjin, China
Jun. 2014 – Jul. 2014
Checked the incorrect connection and interval in autocleanup panel, which were showed by red free edges
Stitched all the free edges with toggle subpanel by setting different tolerance
Created the lost faces and deleted the duplicate faces so that we could generate mesh only on outside faces
Optimized CAD model to generate mesh for many automobile parts with HyperMesh and Star-CCM+
Performed CFD analysis on body structure and exhausted system using Star-CCM+ to get the aerodynamic force distribution and the pressure distribution
Reduced wind resistance and energy consumption for SUVs by conducting CFD analysis on the body structures and making re-design based on the results
PROJECTS
CAE Engineer, Elliptic Grid Generator, Syracuse Aug. 2014 – Nov. 2014
Generated grid by programing with MATLAB for the 2D domain between an airfoil and a rectangular box
Programed with different mechanisms: Successive Over Relaxation (SOR), Successive Linear Over
Relaxation (SLOR), Alternating-Direction Implicit (ADI), Multi-Grid
Analyzed “Consistency, Accuracy, Stability, Efficiency” of the result to define whether it is a good mechanism
CAE/CFD Engineer, Validation Study for Low-Speed Airfoil, Syracuse Jan. 2014 – Apr. 2014
Generated a good mesh around airfoil in Pointwise
Predicted lift and drag coefficients at different AOA (Activity on Arcs) in Star-CCM+ for different cases
Compared the results to the experimental tests and made an analysis about the errors
CAE/CFD Engineer, Solving 1D Unsteady Convection Equation, Syracuse Jan. 2014 – Apr. 2014
Got the exact solution of cosine wave and square wave
Predicted the waves using numerical schemes in MATLAB: Explicit First-Order Upwind, Explicit Second-Order Lax-Wendroff, Implicit Second-Order Crank-Nicholson
Compared the numerical solutions and the exact solution
Analyzed the effects of number of grid points, effects of CFL number, stability and accuracy
