Description:

ICON Central Laboratories, Inc. is headquartered in Farmingdale, New York. Our company provides global central laboratory services from core facilities in New York, Dublin, Singapore, India and China. Since 2000, we have successfully managed the laboratory and associated investigator and logistical support requirements for hundreds of clients in virtually every phase and therapeutic area of clinical development. Provide Oracle DBA support for multiple large databases in production, development and test environments for various types of databases - OLTP and Data warehouse. Used Oracle replication as databases used read only snapshots for maintaining local copy of master tables in OLTP systems. Part of a three-member DBA team managing 72 databases. This included 36 production databases and 36 development/test databases. Users were located in America, Europe and Asia Pacific. Databases were Oracle 10 and running on HP UNIX. Sizes of databases varied from 400 GB to 450 GB. The projects using these databases are for web development and maintenance of Client-Server OLTP systems for business applications such as cargo tracking, billing, etc. Following are some of the typical tasks carried out as part of database administration.

Responsibilities:

Activities performed as Oracle DBA:

Installing Oracle 10g, 11g databases on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, Sun Solaris 10, and WinNT.

Creating Oracle Databases.

Sound knowledge on backup issues.

Maintaining and Administering Oracle databases.

Migrating the databases as per the application requirement.

Configuring the standby for new servers.

Planning and Implementing Backup and Recovery Strategy for databases using Hot and Cold Backups, Logical Backups using exp and imp.

Cloning of Oracle database to different machine for testing purposes.

Refreshing development/test database from production using Export/Import. This is done so that the latest data is available in the development/test database.
