Important Achievements:
Lead role (for South America) in BP’s acquisition and merger with Amoco, and preparation for acquisition of Arco. Complete integration process, reorganization of business units, outplacement programs, re-localization programs, with annual favorable financial impact on HR budget of $ 20+ million. Fast track substitution programs of expatriates by talented nationals with additional savings of $ 30+ million.
Due diligence and acquisition of second largest paint manufacturing and distribution company in Argentina, with subsequent reorganization and reduction of 50% in labor population (600 employees) without impacting annual sales figures. Renegotiation of labor agreements.
Established five (5) business units in Edwards Lifesciences Puerto Rico; three (3) reorganizations with annual savings of $ 3+ million. Under my tenure as HR Director, the OD function was created, the Caribbean Development Center was constructed, and the man hours per year in people development were doubled to over 12,000.
Taking on Operational Management role, on a temporary basis while keeping my Corporate HR role, in a confectionary manufacturing, sales and distribution operation. Over an 18 month span, took the plant from $ 8 million in red on annual basis, to a profit of $ 14 million.

Established HR scorecards that tracked goals and improvements achieved, such as: 50% reduction in absenteeism rates, increase of 15% in the engagement scores of operations under my responsibility (up to 87% engagement rate) with a 95% participation rate. Annual employee rotational rates reduced and kept at all time lows (bellow 7%), supported by aggressive retention programs. Recruitment time on average reduced to 50 days; 3 stage on boarding process established. Significant improvements in healthcare costs. Self service HR kiosks introduced and established at manufacturing sites.

Professional History:
1.Present: Interalliance LLC: Sr. HR & Mgmt. Consulting Director. Executive coaching, career planning, people development, performance management, change management in US (Puerto Rico, Florida), Colombia, Panama and other countries. Instrumental in six startups (food service and transportation sectors).
2.2004-2011: Edwards Lifesciences Technologies SARL – Puerto Rico (USA)
HR Director. Medical Devices, manufacturing, sales and distribution operation with workforce of 1,100 to 1,500 employees.
Strengthened business partnership between HR and client departments; developed and established HR BP model; developed certified leadership and supervisory programs, performance management systems and annual talent reviews with 100% compliance; developed succession and high potential matrix, including fast track and rotational programs between Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and USA (California). Facilitated establishment of BU models across manufacturing site; Regional Caribbean Learning Center was created, maintaining an average of 1,000 man hours per month in development programs across all payrolls. High scoring engagement programs, decreased rotational and absenteeism rates. Worked closely with Dominican Republic sister operation as well as being part of the corporate HR leadership team. Provided extensive support to other operations when required.
3.2000-2004: SAIC – Intesa Latin American subsidiary. International HR Consulting Director- US (Florida), Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, and due diligence in Chile. Joint Venture SAIC and PDVSA.
M&A, start ups, reorganizations, HR policy and cultural integration. Activities also included government, financial, legal, labor relations and negotiations. Major undertaking in downsizing Colombian operation (400 employees), including voluntary separation offers, outplacement programs and retention alternatives for key players.
4.1997-2000: BP (British Petroleum) – Venezuela / Latin America. Country HR and Business Services Director & Regional (South America) HR Lead. Responsibilities included Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil. Member of the BP upstream HR world leadership team. Support for downstream operational startups in Venezuela, Mexico and other Latam initiatives.
Successful merger and integration between BP and Amoco which included people separations, localizations, outplacements, policy and procedural harmonization, retentions, consolidation of HR cultures and systems. Prepared ground work in region for future acquisition of Arco; this included preliminary labor evaluations, strategic plans for future consolidations.
Supported due diligence process, asset acquisitions, organizational layouts and employment processes for “downstream”(service station network).
Established a localization program for 130 expatriated employees, created a fast track program across region to have local talents replace expatriate managerial and key technical positions. Regional rotational programs, development mobility programs. Best practice recognition for change management efforts in the Amoco integration process in region, as well as for the creation of the HR Forum.
5.1990-1996: CORIMON – Corporate HR Director. Multinational corporation with 22 + business units in North, Central and South America, including majority ownership in Grow Group in USA. Operations included manufacturing, sales and distribution of chemical, petrochemical, paint, food (consumer) products, packaging materials, hypermarkets, engineering services, graphic arts. Responsibility for a labor population of 8,000+, with operations in the US, Venezuela, Mexico, Caribbean (T & T, Grenada, Barbados), Colombia, Argentina and exploratory efforts in Brazil and Chile. Member of several Boards of Director of subsidiary companies as well as corporate sponsored social foundations.
6.1982-1989: Beatrice Foods – HR Director and Asst. to Country President. Temporary responsibility as Operations manager – Venezuela and Andean Pact. Labor population of 5,000+, distributed in 7 business units.
