Responsible to establish a formal compensation and benefits function at the corporate level for this packaging equipment company, with 1,900 employees. As a department of one, accomplishments included:
Self – managed an RFP to replace the primary outside consultant.
Completed a search for and implemented an online pricing tool to provide competitive market pay data where none has been available before.
Completed discussion with all 16 business units to provide an overview and general understanding at corporate, of the range, nature and extent of division specific incentive plans. This is part of a larger project to assess if a company wide, broad – based incentive plan should be considered for 2016 to replace the various division plans currently in place.
Worked on developing a broad compensation philosophy and development of more formal processes for basic salary administration
Assumed control of all benefits for the company – design, implementation and administration.
Recommended a series of anciallary Rx programs in the company’s medical plan, which resulted in negating 95% of the forecasted increase in 2015 expenses and, for the first time, no increases in employee contributions.
Redesigned the wellness program from a series of walking challenges to one with multiple challenges covering other aspects of wellness to increase employee engagement and improved the opportunity to earn incentives.

Responsible for the design, development and administration of all compensation and benefit programs for a company of 2,500 employees and 2,200 retirees. Managed an array of vendor relationships and negotiating renewals directly, and through the RFP process.
Was the sole compensation resource for the company during my last six years, whether doing routine market pricing for jobs, or writing the Compensation Committee materials for the Board of Directors
Completed a major redesign of the company’s long term incentive program, approved by the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors in January 2014.
Responsible for the annual bonus plans and merit increase program – companywide.
Created and implemented a shareholder outreach program for 2014.
Achieved medical expense increase of only 2.7% per year, per capita, for salaried employees during the last six years, by implementing a high deductible healthcare plan, wellness program, and employee education.
Drove significant savings through aggressive RFPs, resulting in significant reductions in ASO fees and steep discounts for prescription drugs.
Managed an audit of the company’s pension plans by the Department of Labor without any adverse findings by the agency.
Member of a three-person primary bargaining team through three union contract negotiations, which led to major concessions by the union on healthcare plan design and freezing the pension plan for most bargaining unit employees.
Implemented a program to assist post-65 retirees in the selection of a Medicare supplement and Part D prescription drug program tailored to the retiree’s medical and financial situation.

Negotiated a unified design for both the medical and dental plans, covering all salaried employees in the six subsidiaries and corporate staff, each with separate plan designs.
Eliminated Hay job evaluation/grading system by developing and implementing a market-based salary grade system for corporate staff.
Changed the pension benefit formula for executives, which transferred accrued benefits under the company’s non-qualified supplemental excess retirement plan (the SERP) to the qualified plan, thereby securing the benefits of executives, while reducing the corporation’s SERP liability by $3M.
Completed redesign of sales incentive plans at four business units, providing market competitive incentive pay opportunities and improving sales profitability by tying sales goals to gross margin performance requirements.
