I served two terms in this elected position. Duties included: legislation; decisions regarding litigation; establishing an annual budget; city projects; attending regular and called meetings; in the fairest manner possible, attending to the needs and concerns of the city and those who inhabit it. I also chaired the Maxwell Street Project for five years. This project was a Community Development Block Grant revitalization program that was completed in June of 2007.

Mrs. Pettus was my aunt, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Following the death of her husband in 1991, I tended to her personal, medical and financial affairs for six years, having been placed on payroll the last two years of that period. Duties included: budget management; hiring staff; payroll for four household employees; quarterly reports; tax preparation; paying bills; filing; inventory and restocking household items; transportation to medical/dental appointments. My employment with my aunt ended when she entered a nursing care facility in December of 1998.
