Marasimio Jewelry and Cosmetics Ltd
(September 2013 – December 2014)
Founder, Shareholder and Director
I registered and built Marasimio from scratch to a reputable importer, retailer and wholesaler of cosmetics, jewelry and perfumes with main shops in Nairobi (KE) and Dar Es Salaam (TZ) in less than a 1 year period
Was the director in charge of company operations including finance, administration, business development, marketing and sales
Under my guidance and experience gained from the corporate world and despite the dull economic conditions for SMEs, Marasimio’s market share grew significantly and rapidly to be a beautiful profitable/valuable business that gave birth to a photography/modeling agency in Nairobi and a fully fledged branch in Tanzania. ZTE Corporation (International Marketing & Sales Division V-South Africa Region)
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania
(November 2002 – July 2013)
General Summary
Made history in ZTE as
the longest serving employee in East Africa and local employee in Africa
pioneer local employee to be appointed Director in Africa region
Official “mascot” for ZTE localization policy after being cited and feted by the top CXO as an outstanding performer
Promoted by merit from Key Account manager to Director in a span of less than 6 years covering the East Africa region
All through was a proven efficient leader that smoothly but rapidly integrated and marshaled both technical and sales team to prepare and present project proposals to prospective clients resulting in positive and fast results.
Reduced competitor influence and profit in East Africa region to the advantage of ZTE market share through a sustained CRM campaign that included implementation of SWOT analysis in the midst of a hostile market environment
As an inspiring “hands on” leader and team player, I effectively interacted with other parts of the company to highly motivate my staff of a varied multi cultural background to unprecedented success by creatively managing tight operations budgets and resources Director-Business Enterprise and Government (KE) 2012-2013
In charge of cultivating and developing business relationships with new and existing TELCOS, government, 3rd party partners and other related customers.
Fruitfully lobbied in having ZTE be re-considered and accepted by Safaricom as a supplier after long absenteeism caused by difficulty due to competitor activity through sustained and relentless implementation of personally crafted CRM initiatives.
Appreciably contributed to ZTE winning major contracts by knocking down barriers to entry and closing deals by personally cultivating close relations with key decision makers in Government to win new contracts thus substantially growing ZTE's market share. As the lead marketer, personally developed successful CRM, marketing and sales strategies, coming up with specific plans while adhering to agreed timelines on how to sell ZTE services and products to existing and prospective customers in line with revenue targets based on agreed territory and perceived opportunities with the regional HQ Director.
Achieved a Win-Win view to align business stakeholders to make a compelling value propositions and successfully endorse ZTE's business cases to decision makers in TELCOS, government and government agencies.
Obtained operational statistics including competitor activities that would promote and develop ZTE business including an objective SWOT win/loss analysis.
Despite great market and competitor challenges introduced and successfully marketed first ZTE system equipment and terminals to UG market through XTEL, Uganda Telecom, MTN, Warid and Bharti/Airtel.
Made history by successfully introducing and commercially marketing the 1st dual simcard handset in the East Africa market under the ZTE brand name. Acting Country Director (UG) 2005-2006
Due to non performance for the two years since establishment due to competitor’s hostile activities, it’s dominion of the market, unmotivated staff and other administrative challenges in ZTE UG office, I was appointed as the acting country director (on a temporary basis) in the light of outstanding achievements in my previous postings.
I streamlined business, finance and administrative practices of ZTE Uganda within the first 2 months of my appointment thus enhancing overall efficiency leading to improved KPI rating and favorable office appraisal from ZTE Headquarters.
Due to this achievement, I was confirmed and appointed as Country Director during and within the half year performance appraisal-another first as promotion was based on a yearly appraisal.
During this period I re-established and cultivated customer relations with ALL the main TELCOs, namely MTN, Celtel and UTL that resulted in contracts up to date. Business and Market Development Director (EA) 2004-2005
Made history as the first local staff appointed Director in the South Africa region.
Analyzed and monitored sales activity related to existing customers, pipeline, and prospects; provided accurate forecasts to ensure successful penetration of the market
Cultured good working relations with the key players in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania including relevant ministries and regulatory bodies thus facilitating ZTE's penetration and increasing brand value and exposure.
This effort resulted in two major first time achievements namely: a) ZTE made history as the 1st vendor to successfully host a high delegation from Tanzanian Government and Tanzania’s Communications Regulator (TCRA) to visit it’s HQ despite several powerful attempts by the competitor to scuttle the invite. b) Internally, became the first local staff to lead such a high power delegation to ZTE HQ, and was cited and feted by the company president in person.
Internally oversaw the expansion and upgrading of ZTE East Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) regional offices by attracting, training and retaining a talented pool of staff as part of ZTE global localization strategy.
Supported ZTE Tanzania office to penetrate a difficult market through consistent and well planned CRM initiatives which achieved establishment of solid relations and signing various MOUs with Vodacom, Zantel, Celtel, Dovetel and Quality group. Key Account Manager (KE) 2002-2004
Head hunted and recruited by the then regional HR Director, (currently group HR Director), I was in charge of cultivating relations with key TELCOs and Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK).
