Worked on contract with Turnberry Solutions Inc at Comcast on a large scale big data project to improve customer experience by giving the agent a historic view of the customers’ interactions over time. Tasked to improve the ingestion and data representation. The Hadoop cluster was set up with CentOS Linux. The project leveraged several big data technologies on the back end; worked with Kafka, Hbase, Hive, Elastic Search, Kibana.

Worked the last 4 years in the Big Data area. Cluster was Cloudera distribution running on Suse Linux and was later migrated to Oracle Linux. Evangelized the utilization of Big Data to upper management in order to solve our business needs. Designed and architected production system provided the source data for the InCites analytic product as well as JCR, ESI, Web of science and custom data. Built the production system with on site and a large off site group. Architected access control to separate users and data.

Managed for 8 years a lean group of developers in California, Pennsylvania and Spain behind the EndNote product. Lead research and recommendation of embedded storage system to use. Hired to do web development on Sun’s UNIX, Solaris. Worked on many different web projects from data delivery to the then unreleased Web of Science project. Introduced the Philadelphia office to MySQL during this time.

•Projects were documented and designed with UML diagrams.

•Code repository for projects varied CVS or SVN was typical.

•Built an automated FTP delivery system using MySQL, ProFTPd, ProcMail delivered electronic files to customers on a weekly basis.

•E-commerce site built on with IBM’s Net.Commerce application on IBM AIX.

•Credit card transactions cleared through custom CyberCash module in C and Java

•Serving web pages from Netscape Enterprise Server.

•Architected the company’s Multi Product Login system. This was a precursor to our company portal. Built with Solaris, Apache, Mysql and Perl.

•Architected a system around XML-RPC to more formalize our 3 tier system on RedHat Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl and Java.

•Headed development the product named WriteNote this later become known as EndNote Web. Built with Solaris, Apache, MySQL and Perl.
