Cardinal Glass Industries is a leader in the development of insulating glass, plasma vapor deposition coated, residential and commercial glass, laminated, tempered and safety glass. With more than 5,500 employees located at 27 manufacturing facilities around the United States.

Responsibilities included TQM of operations in four high volume product manufacturing lines. Provide guidance and support to production in corrective and preventive action, drove the new product qualification program, statistical process control, 8D problem solving, and lean manufacturing techniques. I was responsible for refining outdated procedures, improved manufacturing equipment efficiencies and process flow. Quality has improved from 3.8% reject to <1% in 18 month period. Quality systems documentation auditing were key areas of improvement. My job built and maintained close relationships with customers to resolve quality issues. I worked with supply chain representatives to reduce raw material lead times by 22% and inventory costs by 14%. I am management representative for our ERP, ISO, CE and safety, health and environmental programs.

Heraeus Tenevo Inc., Buford, GA - Sr. Quality Systems Engineer - Sep 1998- May 2003

Heraeus Tenevo is a German owned manufacturer and primary supplier of the highest quality fused silica quartz, substrates, over-cladding, and jackets for the manufacturing fiber optics telecommunication cable and semi-conductor components industries in the world.

As the Sr. Quality Systems Engineer for Heraeus Tenevo I was responsible for; providing leadership in the development and implementation of statistical techniques, analyzed customer and production feedback to recommend continuous process improvements in manufacturing. I was lead auditor for ISO quality systems program for seven Heraeus locations and three different related companies in the continental US where I implemented a “real time” SPC analysis for corporate to see remote facility Key Process Indicators.

Supervised the measurement and testing laboratory including infrared spectrum analysis, refractive index, chemical mix, and color analysis. Developed sampling systems, reliability testing, calibration and certification of critical measuring instruments and hand tools. I directed the employee job certification testing programs, mentored new and experienced employees in quality systems, metrology, blueprint reading, quality documentation and current manufacturing processes. Monitor, analyze and report to senior managers the production efficiency, recommended process improvements, wrote procedures and work instructions, and managed the corrective and preventive action program for effectiveness. Audited key production processes and developed useful performance metrics and reported results to upper management.

Kato Spring of Georgia Inc. - Suwanee, GA – Feb 1983 – Nov 1998

I worked 16 years with Kato Spring, a Japanese high volume precision spring; insert molding, magnetic media and automotive / aerospace metal forming company founded in 1930 that established a start-up operation in Georgia in 1983 with five employees. By 1998, production was 90+ million precision springs/stamping and assembly components per month, with total workforce of 220 employees. Kato merged the Georgia and California operation to create one U.S. Company in Cypress California.

Engineering & Quality Manager - Apr 1993- Nov 1998

Responsible for total quality management development, manufacturing engineering and technical sales support for an expanding customer base. Directed new products engineering from concept through production. I implemented a new documentation control system for automotive and aerospace customers with TS16949 - QS9000 - APQP - PPAP - FMEA - SPC requirements. Directed the ISO 9002 certification from start up to completion as steering committee leader and wrote our new standard operational procedures and quality manual. Studied Kaizen and JIT techniques in Japan.

Chief Engineer - Duluth, GA - Mar 1988- Apr 1993

In our new 180,000 square foot facility, Kato Spring supplied over 1/3 of the world market for MFD (3.5 micro floppy disk) metal components and 60 million precision springs, stamping and assembly components each month, with a total workforce of 80 employees. Responsible for metal wire, stamping and plastic molding tooling/machine development and process improvement.

Created specialty engineered components team for developing new products, reliability testing, and product performance per JIS, ASTM, and customer standards. Evaluated supplier performance / recommended capital equipment purchase. Managed a team of engineers in research and development of robotics, automated assembly equipment and new manufacturing techniques. Focus on increased productivity scrap / waste reduction, Just-In-Time inventory, increase quality and product reliability.

Production Engineer – Norcross, GA - Feb 1983- Mar 1988

I began employment with Kato Spring of Georgia, a 5-person start-up operation in the United States. Responsible for establishing engineering support to production, quality assurance, and technical sales departments. Trained 3 years with Japanese engineers installing production lines, robotics, and automated inventory.

I directed incoming inspection of Tier I & II suppliers for specification conformance. I wrote operational procedures and ISO 9000 quality manual. Created teams within production and quality assurance. Conducted training courses to improve statistical process control and blueprint reading for non-technical employees.
