I am writing to apply for the post of History and Social Studies Teacher which was advertised in the Sunday Gleaner on September 1, 2013.

Your advertisement caught my interest as it will afford me the opportunity to utilise my skills acquired through academic training and work experience. I possess a diploma from the Mico College and a Bachelor of Education Degree with first class honours from the University of the West Indies.

I possess more than seven years teaching experience as a History and Social Studies teacher; I have also taught Social Studies, English Language and Literature. I am an ardent worker, always aiming for the highest quality results. As a teacher, I have displayed meticulous record keeping skills and high quality lesson planning. Not only have I taught in the high school setting but I have experience teaching adults as well. Hence, I have had to design methods of instruction that were appropriate for the varying age groups. Outside of the classroom, I was involved in various areas of school life.

I have excellent communication skills as I have participated in and won a public speaking competition, as well as a member of my school’s debate team. I believe in working collaboratively for the achievement of set goals and I am highly proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. I also work extremely well on my own initiative.
