Darin James Helton Singer/songwriter

Synopsis

Born in Gary, In. on September 16, 1966. Son of Wendell Helton and Carmella Montorsi. I have one sister named Jennifer. My Papaw/Grandpa Ed Helton used to play the fiddle for Bill Monroe back in the 40s, I ve still got his fiddle! I just thought Id throw that in there. Early Life Growing up in the seventies in Gary, In. was nt so bad. I had a pretty close knit group of buddies I ran with. I recall around the age 11or 12, a few of us found a little hill behind the alley just north of ridge road. We would break off tree branches shaped like Gibson Flying V guitars, get on top of the hill and put on a rock show. Jam hill we called it. We were all big Kiss fans back then. I had already been introduced to the guitar by my daddy who was a singer/guitar player. He showed me a few chords on his guitar when I was 10. I played around with it here and there for a few years. Late 70s early 80s construction work was down and jobs were hard to come by in northwest Indiana, so we moved to Orlando Florida. While in high school for a couple years I would meet up on occasion and jam with a few guys I was in band with. Nothing serious. Work picked back up in Indiana towards the late 80s and we moved back to Gary! I never realized until we moved back, that the smell in the air when the wind was out of the north when I was a kid, was Waste burn off from the U.S Steel coke battery plant. After adjusting my sense of smell from orange blossoms in Orlando back that old coke battery stench, I started working with my dad on a construction survey crew, and did so for many years. Band Days When I was 20 years old I met some guys at a local bar. Drinking age was 21, but Id sneak in every once in awhile. We were playing foosball and they told me they were in a band and they needed a singer. Top 40s Rock band. Couple days later we all met, they liked my singing and we formed the band Witness. We played pretty much every Friday and Saturday night and had some really great gigs back then. Summer festivals were a blast. The band broke up after 5 years. I guess we needed a break. I decided to take some vocal lessons and did so at Valparaiso University Conservatory located in Valparaiso, In. I trained in Opera and Classical for about 6 months. A couple years later I found God and formed a Christian rock band called Seraphim. I suppose I was 27 years old at that time. This band was all original music. We would play at churches and coffee houses back then and had some decent success with our first album called Overcome. We were at a music festival in southern Illinois and passed out some of our c.ds. About a month later I received an issue of a magazine called Heavens Metal. They got a hold of our c.d at the festival and wrote an article on our band. Heavens Metal Magazine was an international publication. We started receiving letters from around the globe wanting our c.d. It was pretty cool. We got rid of a bunch of them. I met and married my wife around this time. (1996) The band kind of fell apart and I focused my energy on starting my own construction company and built several homes over the next decade of being in business. In 2008 I had an old drummer friend ask if I was interested in singing with his band. It had been quite a few years but I felt the pull of the stage and music. I blew the dust off of my old microphone and joined the band. We played all cover tunes, 70s rock. We had a lot of fun and some great gigs. We stayed together for 4 or 5 years then took a break. I kept playing by myself and got back into writing my own music. Currently I have written several songs over the last couple years and have been doing a lot of studio work with my music. I have a full length c.d that will be complete this summer. Country/Rock kind of stuff.

I am interested in playing aboard a cruise ship as a solo singer/guitar performer.
