Project Engineer - Eicher Engineering Solutions (Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd) Michigan, USA Jan 2014 – Present
Responsible for handling multiple projects from setup to execution to delivery.
Managing offshore resources to maximize profitability for projects.
Simulate/Debug FEA models with technical issues (Errors/Instability/Convergence issues etc.) and providing design recommendations and inexpensive/optimized solutions based on the analysis results and Engineering judgement.
Ensure On-Time delivery and managing clients ranging from Tier 1 suppliers to major OEMs.
Successfully accomplished several projects including variety of vehicle components such as chassis, exhaust system, door trim, seats, front and rear suspension bogie, hood, bumper, rear and front under protection device, BIW, headlamps, full vehicle etc.
Few of the challenges successfully managed:
Simulating Random Vibration response at multiple locations in 3 degrees of freedom simultaneously on an exhaust system assembly. It was difficult to model this analysis using the standard Abaqus solver since Abaqus does not allow specifying locations for excitations under random response. I simulated this by running frequency response using Nastran and incorporating the results in Patran where I was able to specify the excitation locations and run Random Vibration Analysis and hence providing accurate results to the client without compromising on quality and time.
Simulated front crash impact of a full vehicle. The next step was to do nonlinear optimization of few components in the car model for this crash event. The estimated computational time for a single run was approximately 7 days. I reduced the car model to have similar response under front impact which helped in reducing the computational time to 2 days.
Performed light weighting (design optimization) of a current production hood for a major truck OEM to gain 15% weight savings without compromising on the performance of the hood under various load cases.
Performed material characterization of a composite to be utilized for seatbacks for light weighting by a major OEM. Successfully came up with a material model using LS Dyna to test material under compression, tension, shear, 4 point bend test and knee impact test. The composite behavior was well correlated to the physical tests. Abhishek Paul RESUME 24742 Roosevelt Court Apt #338
303-***-**** ********.********@*****.*** Farmington Hills Michigan 48335 CAE/FEA Intern - Eicher Engineering Solutions (Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd) Michigan, USA Jun 2013 – Aug 2013 I worked as a CAE (FEA) Intern. I worked on various projects for a major OEM. Projects included:
Performing nonlinear analysis of coat hook under push and pull load case and also performing material data processing
(calculating true stress, true strain and plastic strain and determining yield stress and failure strain from the stress strain curve).
Simulating creep analysis of Door garnish which included 3 load steps, temperature rise, 7 day creep and cool down. Successfully accomplished reduction in displacements due to expansion by design modifications and iterations.
Static linear analysis of snorkel ducts, accomplished complete meshing of the model within quality limits.
Simulating load floor handle under push and pull load case. Improved the design of the spring and dog house which helped in reducing stress concentration at critical areas.
Performed analysis on snap fits to observe the extraction and insertion of the snap. Successfully debugged and fixed convergence issues faced in the model.
Performed modal analysis on instrument panel to calculate first 10 modal frequencies and study the behavior of different mode shapes.
