Asset Manager, Nyrstar Tennessee Mines

Produced dramatic improvements while directing operations for installation and service provisions for all Tennessee assets for Nyrstar and facility infrastructure systems. Responsibilities included budgets, strategic planning, and capital project justification. Provided cross-functional management across eight operational units across Tennessee. Consolidated all asset operations ; increased reliability. Directed 12 general supervisors, 14 front line supervisors, and over 172 employees.

Provided individual and group professional coaching resulting in substantially improved profitability by reducing operational costs from $4.3M to $2.15M.

Through workshop facilitation and one-on-one coaching increased operational productivity from 5,500 tons/day to 8,250 tons/day by implementation of lean, which led to improved equipment reliability and increased customer satisfaction.

Cut warehouse inventory from $22M down to $17M by new resource management tools.

Fostered a focused total safety culture reducing the total recordable incident rate (TRIR) from 7.54 with 27 people hurt in the year prior to my assignment. During my tenure the TRIR was 1.34, which is significantly below the national average of 2.1.

Manager Electrical and Facility Operations

Directed all maintenance operations, with P&L accountability, for installation and service provisions for electrical and facility infrastructure systems. Included cross-functional management across five operational areas, long-range planning, capital projects, and company-wide cost cutting projects. Directed general supervisors, nine front line supervisors, and had general oversight over 50 employees.

Increased equipment availability to 93%, and returned company to a world class facility and maintenance operation through leadership development, coaching, strategic planning and lean process improvements.

Turned around safety culture in an organization through the implementation of a modern safety management methodology (DNV) resulting in zero reportable incidents during the remainder of my assignment (3 years).

Led a companywide project to increase focus on electrical safety. Study led to all 5 operating units 100% compliant with respect to the elimination of Arc Flash Hazards, the leading cause of death to electrical professionals. The first comprehensive study completed in the mining industry, it resulted in a white paper, several presentations of the work, and to new standards in IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E.
