Beginning in spring 2014, I started working as a Packaging Coordinator with Tourism Northern Ontario. In this role I have worked with colleagues at Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, Tourism Northern Ontario and the Algoma Kinniwabi Travel Association. This is my current position. In this role I have been tasked with Developing an online reservation system for the Algoma Kinniwabi Travel Association. This involves understanding my client’s business requirements and their opportunities in the tourism market by gathering business and statistical data in relation to consumer trends. In this position I work closely with regional tourism operators, other marketing, product managers and commercial teams throughout the region in order to develop understanding of market needs. We share market intelligence, define value propositions, drive strategies and new solutions. My role’s responsibilities are to establish and maintain a marketing plan, act as a subject matter expert for tourism operators and assist in the maintenance and evolution of the reservation system offerings and sales. I work closely with the regional operators to help them achieve their sales objectives through regular reporting, specific campaigns, pilot offerings, develop key industry relationships, identify and analyse strategic trends and draw conclusions. In this role I promote Algoma Kinniwabi travel Association services to our clients. In this position I develop visitor experiences, consumer packages and specific workshops with partners to evaluate how we could be doing a better job for tourism in the region. Daily tasks include discussion over strategic offerings, aligning operator and package development priorities outlined by Tourism Northern Ontario`s mandate. This position requires adhering to TICO and Ontario Travel Act regulations.
Through the summer of 2014, I worked for the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation (SSMEDC), as part of Tourism Sault. Ste. Marie. My primary function was to support the area’s largest attraction, the Agawa Canyon Tour Train. This included working with the tour train operator, local hotels and accommodation providers and engaging with potential tourist/clients. The position required sales skills to sell the city and the tour train as a tourist destination. In this role I became acutely aware of Sault Ste. Marie’s tourism market, as well as the strategic direction of the regional tourism industry. Other various tasks included liaising with any prospective organizations looking to do business in the local market, researching for specific projects, maintaining databases, accounting and bookkeeping spreadsheets as well as inquiry call logs.
During the summer of 2012 I worked in the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) where I collaborated with the communications department to complete a client satisfaction survey. This included design and implementation of the survey, interpreting the data gained into statistics and collating the English and French versions into a final report. As well I researched best practices of communications for achieving a paperless office and electronic meetings, while still maintaining ministry requirements and standards. Additionally, I prepared pre-board meeting minutes, analyzed data relevant to the Northern Ontario Growth Plan, and assisted with preparation of data for unit and department meetings. The position also required working with parent organization, Tourism Northern Ontario to ensure initiatives fell in line with provincially mandated objectives, missions and goals.
While completing my degree in Political Science at the University of Windsor I have participated in many case studies of Canadian government institutions, including the Canadian Tourism Commission. I have a deep understanding of its mandate, strategic direction, legislation and policies. I have used various computer software packages to analyze studies; have delivered numerous presentations to relate information on topics current to global and local concerns; worked as part of a team to present cohesive reports; and researched data through the use of internet and social media trends. I am competent using databases, electronic mail systems, spreadsheets and have experience packaging information into marketable formats.
Through an internship with the City of Windsor I completed a customer satisfaction survey, working with the communications and internal divisions of the building department where the main objective was to identify service gaps and perception of services. This included assisting with weekly presentations to various departments, responding to enquiries of staff, and delivering final report to the department. A recent volunteer role with this office also provided me with an opportunity to work as a member of the Host Organizing Committee that planned and organized a large provincial symposium, including greeting and issuing conference credentials, assisting with program delivery through stewarding participants during presentations, organizing busing of event delegates and general program assistance.
During my post-secondary education I have worked in a customer service role where I learned to deliver quality customer service to foster trust, integrity and respond to customer inquiries promptly and accurately. Additionally in my summer position with the Community Centres Division of the City of Sault Ste. Marie I worked as a team member to set-up for several functions such as conferences, trade shows, concerts and sporting events. Through my combined education and experience I have the competencies required to successfully complete the responsibilities of this position. I am comfortable speaking to large audiences and presenting material to foster understanding of specific data.
You will find me to be an effective leader and great communicator capable to make things happen. I possess the ability to identify business opportunities and create new solutions. I have a strong track record of business development evidenced in my current position and developed in past positions with the city of Windsor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation. I have the ability to quickly understand and summarize complex business situations and identify the most promising ideas and have produced many case studies during my academic and professional career to practice these skills. I am able to influence others, while actively listening to their opinions and suggestions to ensure adhesion and team support. I am a team player with a hands-on, energetic but realistic approach with a natural ability to network and negotiate compromise to solve complex issues. I am a Canadian citizen with complete fluency in English, and a high level of French in reading, writing and speaking. I completed an undergraduate degree (4 Year, Honours) at the University of Windsor in 2013. I consider myself to be an individual who can prioritize tasks, exercise sound judgment and deliver on deadlines. I am able to find success working independently and as part of a team. I am willing to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and holidays as well as travel for work when required. I hold an Ontario Drivers License and have obtained reliability status security clearance for past positions, and would be able to do so if chosen for this position.
