Application Overview:

Order management system

The order management system (OMS) is on AS400 system. There are different channels to place and order such as the ECOM website, Phone order entry, Mail order entry.

The OMS systems receive the orders through the order entry channels. The Phone Order and mail order entries are directly on AS400. The Orders placed on ECOM is interfaced to OMS.

The orders once received in AS400 are processed by the “Editing” Jobs. These jobs check the orders for errors. If Errors are detected, the Order is pushed into the Interactive Editing queue.

Such orders are picked up by the order editor personnel, and the error is rectified.

After vetting the order, the orders are invoiced.

The Credits and Returns are also handled with the system

The different Systems that interact with AS400 and not limited to the below list are

1. Sterling - OMS

2. PKMS – Pick Ticket management

3. CHASE and ADS for Settlement processes during Invoice process

4. Carlson Fulfillment system

TIBCO and MOVEIT have been very much in use in the different Interactions with other non-AS400 Systems

Main Projects worked

Project - Tokenization

Currently the Client systems store Credit card number in the Encrypted format and are compliant with PCI. But since this process is adding cost in terms of PCI compliance, and also does not eliminate risk, the client is planning to remove Credit card details from the Client systems and store Tokens instead. For this it will have a third party Vendor where the Credit card will be send, and in turn receive a token for the credit card.

All processes like authorization settlement, search Customer details by credit card, issuing credits on returns, etc will have to be performed using this tokens.

Based on the User reported Exposure and premium for a month, monthly reports would be created in the system

The Front end is in Dot Net, while the Back end is in Iseries. All the processing and logic resides in the back-end and the requested information is sent back to the front end.

Made changes to the existing LANSA programs, being called for developing the reporting Forms.

Main Projects worked

Project Description - SQL Proof of Concept (POC)

Around 1100 programs were earmarked has having bad SQL or what is called SQL anti-patterns. This was understood to have performance issue in the AS400 system. To study the issue and to come up with optimum solution was the objective of SQL POC project. Anti-patterns in RPG were identified as those code or logic which affects the performance of a system. The performance tuning of query was required to be performed.

Had experience in fine tuning, rewriting SQL query, and using tools like Iseries Navigator as aids in optimizing the performance of the SQLs. Used Iseries Navigator for performance Data Base (DB) monitoring and analyzing the obtained outputs.

Gained good understanding on anti-patterns like, logging of QTEMP table, Programmatic joins, using UDF’s, Difference between CQE and SQE, OPNQRYF, Do’s and Don’ts when writing an SQL. Also had firsthand experience in estimating the effort required, for rectifying 3148 anti-patterns spread over 1100 programs.

Project Description – Direct to warehouse ordering

This project is related to the automating processes such that, based on the forecast sales sheets, the system would auto generate the suggested buy. Other functionalities like, how much a truck has to be loaded, the delivery dates when multiple warehouses are involved and the related logistics were also automated to help the buyer buy efficiently for the warehouses. The complete testing of this system to catch defects and make it bug free, was the task.
