Dear Representative,

Thank you very much for this opportunity to apply for this position with you.

I have exceptional patient relations skills, advanced radiation safety knowledge (for AR, TN, and MS) and 35 years of experience with almost all systems used in nuclear medicine.

My years as a volunteer imaging professional on a breast cancer website has given me insights that I think you would find most fascinating.

Go to http://bclist.petebevin.com/ and perform a search for Toya. At the time I began volunteering with this listserv, I was a 16 year NMT. This community taught me things that I never learned in school or in practice. I know things that most allied health professionals don’t know about the “cancer community”. I would like to think that I have taught them things that they misunderstood about the “healthcare community”.

I have often been described as high energy, self-directed and results driven. I pride myself on my interpersonal, technical and research skills. I am available for employment (with generous appropriate notice). My salary interests are negotiable.

I would love to interview with you about this position.

Sincerely,

Toya T. Powell, CNMT, ARRT (N), ASCP (NM)

Unique Problem Solving Ideas of Interest From Toya Powell:

-while working as a contract nuclear tech, made an overview of the facility’s nuclear charges and discovered that the billing was being charged by the number of milliliters instead of the number of millicures thereby saving the facility in excess of forty-three thousand dollars annually.

-when invited to speak about nuclear medicine at an international non-profit breast cancer conference, created a show-stopper display called “Barbie gets breast cancer” complete with a Barbie in a wheel chair, a Barbie nuclear tech in scrubs, a Ken physician with stethoscope, an IV pole with tubing connected to the doll’s arms, and two female and one male dolls that had had left, right and bilateral simulations of mastectomies that had healed.

-when querried by a cardiologist as to how to reduce misadministrations by his technologists and students, developed a procedure that cost $0 and reduced misadministrations by 88%.

-when tasked by a cardiologist to develop a powerpoint for attending physicians at his practicing hospital, developed it with alternate versions for his nurse practitioner and included a display called “Barbie gets heart disease” with a doll that was hooked up to a treadmill and when a tiny button was pushed at its’ back it was enabled it to walk on the treadmill.

-when challenged by one of the top physicians at the medical college, was able to stump over 40 physicians, residents, nuclear techs, physicists and scientists with real artifacts that mimic disease (including the renown “world’s strangest cardiac SPECT artifact”).

-to acknowledge the achievements of the area teachers having nuclear procedures, at the end of their procedure, they are informed that the reason that their procedure is performed by a highly skilled allied health professional is because of a teacher and then they are honored with a memento of their procedure in the guise of an unusual coin that has as it’s cover a light bulb in the middle of a superman emblem and a typed statement emblazoned with their name that says “my name is (their name) and I am a teacher, what is your superpower?

-when it was learned that two of the founding members of the nonprofit state society of nuclear medicine had passed away without ever being lauded for the creation of one of the longest running phenomenal nuclear medicine societies in the United States; single handedly petitioned the governor of the state to proclaim a week in their honor; financed commemorative silver coins and an accompanying ceremony so that the living members would know that they were not forgotten.

-developed a technologist generated half page patient history sheet that improved diagnosis 40% and improved reimbursement by 72%.

-when it was discovered that a huge portion of our patients were functionally illiterate, constructed a patient instruction sheet that had enough images on it that told the story of what would happen in such detail that a 10 year old child could understand it.

-so impressed a visiting city newspaper reporter about my love and passion for nuclear medicine that she wrote a half page feature article on me that more than doubled our patient statistics for 2 months. The article was titled Nuke Nut.
