To Whom It May Concern:
Please consider my resume and qualifications for the current Plant Manager opening in Houston. My 18 years of manufacturing management experience includes successful oversight of all departments and functions of manufacturing operations. These consist of, first and foremost, Safety and Quality. Also, Production Scheduling, Procurement, Production Control, woodworking, cabinet making, finish carpentry, metal fabrication departments using automated and manual processes, Welding, Assembly, Coatings, Shipping, Quality, Warehouse and Sales. I proficiently use Microsoft Office programs to produce reports, written communication and spreadsheets to assist my full P&L, budgeting, reporting and documentation responsibilities.
In my roles as Engineer, Quality Manager and Special Projects Manager, I developed fantastic departmental coordination. As Plant Manager, Vice President of Manufacturing and General Manager of manufacturing companies, I have coordinated multiple-shift, multiple-location, union and non-represented operations. I have scheduled work in process, hired skilled labor, directed workflow, and assigned labor to best use our resources for maximum productivity and efficiency. The duties of this activity included tracking time and resolving arising issues on the fly. I am especially happy with my successful development of Supervisors and middle managers, who became more effective and accomplished goals of the overall organization and of their employees as I guided them. I successfully administered full P&L and budgeting responsibilities.
My methods of communicating corporate goals while accommodating employee goals have been successful in improving morale, safety and customer retention/acquisition. One effective means has been setting up communication boards with KPIs for all to observe. I also effectively communicate face-to-face with employees, customers, management, vendors and regulatory agencies. I feel it is important that all stakeholders strive toward the same goals and it is rewarding to see this accomplished.
Integrity is among my highest attributes. Years of experience in various specific areas of the manufacturing industry have helped develop my abilities in conflict resolution, negotiation, personal effectiveness, creative problem solving, strategic thinking, team building, influencing and selling.
My companies have set records for safety and I have driven lean transformation while assisting many other manufacturers with lean implementation, ISO certification, Six Sigma Black Belt training and SPC applications. Through these efforts, I have been privileged to participate in great improvements and accomplishments. These include productivity and efficiency, production goals exceeded, 5S (and 6S) audits, establishment of teams, follow-up activities, metrics of accomplishments, kaizen events, kanban systems (two-bin, color coded and tiered), SMED, signaling systems, color codes, ownership maps, and daily/weekly/monthly tasks, documented standard work, shadow boards, and POU location.
Using lean methodology, I have guided employee involvement and empowerment to develop better workflow, reduced waste and lower WIP, while reducing lead-time and improving quality. I have found the most valuable resource in a company to be their current employee base, who know where inefficiencies, ripe for improvement, exist. I believe my employees, customers, Board of Directors, and suppliers have all grown from these relationships and I know I have.
I hope to hear from you, soon and look forward to discussing my potential contributions to the Southern Recruiting Solutions client company.
Thanks,
Scott Lawson Scott A. Lawson
