PROFILE

I have worked on the Portland waterfront, in various roles, for more than two decades. I am

acquainted with many of the key players on the Columbia / Willamette River waterfronts including; cargo shippers, terminal operators, freight brokers, customs brokers, tugboat operators, shipyards, rail services, ILWU (Local 8) members, PMA, port agents, marine surveyors, admiralty lawyers, pilots, vessel operators, cleaning companies and relevant government officials. I understand how these players interact in maritime economies locally and globally. EXPERIENCE

Portland Area Manager, SGS Minerals Services Portland, OR 2007-2015 As manager I revitalized a failing divisional operation. This was achieved with staff replacements, improved customer service, streamlined reporting systems, budgetary management and an expanded customer base. I managed a staff of marine surveyors, administrators, lab technicians and field inspectors, working collaboratively with buyers and exporters of potash, ore concentrates, and other bulk commodities. I travelled frequently to Canada to meet with customers and associates. Operations Manager, Lasco Shipping, Portland, OR 1998-2004 I managed post-fixture requirements for handy-sized bulk vessels trading globally as governed by charterparty terms and conditions. Activities included partnering with chartering brokers, relaying voyage instructions to vessels’ Masters, appointing port agents, calculating laytime and dem/des, making freight payments and managing dispute resolution. I was solely responsible for bunker fuels procurement for the entire Lasco handy-size fleet. I travelled internationally (Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Greece) to promote Lasco freight services to cargo shippers and other bulk vessel owners. District Manager, Interocean Ship Agency, Portland, OR 1992-1998 I managed the regional office for a San Francisco based company providing port agency and brokerage services to various ship owners and operators calling at Washington and Oregon ports. I personally organized and attended port calls for various types of bulk cargo vessels and a wide range of bulk commodities including logs and lumber products, wheat and other agricultural commodities, cement, fertilizers, steel products, bulk mineral ores, bulk liquid chemicals, liquid petroleum products, pipes, automobiles, project cargo and passengers. I frequently travelled internationally (London, Tokyo, Manila, Houston) to promote Interocean’s services. EDUCATION

The American Graduate School of International Management (‘Thunderbird’), Glendale, AZ, Master of International Management

The ‘Thunderbird’ curriculum included team studies of international marketing, financial accounting, international finance and trade, transnational law, cross-cultural communication and Japanese and French languages. I spent a Summer semester studying at Yonsei University at Seoul, S. Korea. 2415 NE 26th Ave. Portland, OR 97212 T: 503-***-**** acr6kd@r.postjobfree.com DAVID NAGEL
